Dear Anna: I just picked up my order from simon this morning. I have tripe and ground turkey with bone. The tripe comes in a 10 x 10 baggie frozen as you know. I am going to let it thaw a little and then cut in into 4 sections and put back in freezer.
How do you feed tripe to your dogs? Have you had an adverse reactions, stomach problems when they first ate it?

oops I wanted to say how fresh my order was as well. I would recommend them to anyone and plan to use them again. The fact that Simon comes through my area is great, the shipping fee is much less that way, and I can spend they money I would spend on shipping on more treats for the pooches!

Hello all. I am new here and have been reading as much as I can on RAW diet for my Akita. I live in Fort Washington, Maryland and would like to get some distributor information in my area. I am seriously moving towards changing his diet to totally raw. I am looking to start this ASAP. Thanks all in advance.

Distributors of premade raw diets or of the ingredients to put together your own?
(And welcome!)

Hello, I was thinking of doing my own. I just spoke with a friend of mine that get's his meat from a butcher near by. He told me that he does sell foods for dog's and cat's. I can go to him for my organ meat and any other part of the animal I want. Come to find out he feeds his dog's that way!! I was going to make my own mix but a pre-made mix would be good if I can find it near me of good quality.

And you're clear on what you do want from the butcher? You've read the Leerburg suggested menus, for example?
I ask this because I wouldn't accept an unknown ground unidentifiable mix that might be nothing but bone, scraps, etc.
If you can identify RMBs and muscle meat and organ meat, and have a good picture of how they go together, then heck yeah.
JMO.

Yes, I just read the example menu's that he has. Since I am just getting ready to move him over to RAW, how do I go about this without upsetting his stomach to much? To break him in I mean, how should I feed him? Put a little meat in his regular food everyday until I can get him off of kibble? I am just not sure and I have been reading ALOT on this site and I think I am starting to suffer from info overload.

Here is how I switch a new (pre-owned) adult. It's very careful and conservative because I am often switching an adult or senior after a long time elsewhere on kibble. Most dogs don't need this level of caution. OTOH, it makes bouts of diarrhea or any other rebellion, including suspicion on the part of the dog, very unlikely.
I give a small meal of skinned white ground poultry, available at any meat counter. Over the next few days, at one additional ingredient per day (or even less), I add ingredients, like fish oil and E, yogurt with live cultures, some of the poultry skin, RMBs, a little produce, etc. I add organ meat last and in a very small amount to start with because IME, organ meat is the most likely to trigger a little diarrhea at first unless it's introduced gradually.
It takes me a week or so to (even more) to be feeding a complete LB sample menu.

BTW, it's 100% worth any extra effort at first to make this switch, IMO.
IMO, it's a profound benefit to the dog to receive fresh food.
There are a few "rules," like never feeding a raw diet without digestible bones, but every rule is covered in the LB sample menus.

That's great. I just read on another thread that when starting this I could do one meal kibble and one meal RMB(chicken quarters) to start. He will have his "meat" meal in the evenings and kibble in the morning. I will switch him over totally in about 2 to 3 weeks. What do you think about this schedule? He does eat twice a day.

I've never done it that way, but lots of people have.
