Sadly, in this area, PETCO still sells all manner of live animals, including puppies. These are not rescues that are being adopted, but rather, puppy-mill puppies.
The PETCOs in this area will ALSO hold adoptions, but they still sell mill puppies.
I don't know if it's a francise thing, or what, because I know PETCOs "official" policy is that they don't sell puppies. For that reason, I used to shop at my local PETCO, until I went inside and saw several puppies that appeared to be under 7 weeks of age. I inquired about when they would be ready for adoption, I was shocked to find out that they were already for sale. When I asked for clarification, "You mean adoption, right?", I was told that these were "sale" puppies, and that rescue adoptions are only done on certain days.
Even the stores that aren't selling dogs, are still selling all manner of other animal- and even though I am a hunter and meat eater, my outrage at animal breeding mills extends beyond dogs, to ALL the live animals sold at PETCO and other stores.
Bottom line, I don't patronize any store that sells live animals, of ANY sort.

We don't have a Petco around here, but we do have an Animart that, from what I've been told, sells puppies (and just about everything else under the sun). I work at Petsmart and get asked if we sell puppies all the time. I found out my coworkers were directing them to Animart and, well, got a little upset, to say the least.

Sorry.... I said Ashley but meant Alyssa. Sorry for the confusion
I do find it strange that the policy is not consistent among the franchises (with PetCo).

Would you please PM me the store's address?
I saved the corporate name I spoke to, and I want to have a real chat about being lied to. I won't use your name or anyone's but my own.

P.S. And if it's a case of a franchise owner deviating from policy, then I want them to know. Right?

Ashley I think it is good that the show is edited. Either CM would be considered too harsh, or people would use the method for reasons/behaviors that did not warrant it, or they would not be able to do it properly and create more serious problems.
I have had to choke dogs out for handler aggression to prevent being torn into. Just recently a dog I was working the session went very much like the episode with the Malamute only this animal is not dog aggressive, she is very human aggressive. We had the neighbors coming out of the house to watch the scene unfold as it lasted nearly 5 minutes. I had a lot of explaining to do afterwards to make sure people did not think I was abusive or go try it with their own dogs for not sitting when told to.
It is not pretty. And even when not having to go all the way to the point of choking a dog out (Because it will not stop trying to attack you while conscious) the intensity of the physical corrections, the touch or foot, can be quite a bit and to a lot of people looks like you are just wacking or kicking the dog. TO a degree, you are. For dogs with that level of intensity I prefer to use other means that physical touch correction however.

This is the reason I deal with the majority of the aggression issue in the backyard, garage, or house, and save the out front where the neighbors can see for when the dog is doing much better and majorly less severe corrections bounce the dog back - I hate having to explain to people who have their finger on the SEND button for calling animal control or are ready to do it (the same correction to their own dog) themselves. Someone who genuinely wants to learn or be educated, i don't mind at all - in fact I routinely have people shadowing me to learn on my most aggressive cases. Sometimes I end up dealing with it on my turf - where I know that I won't have this problem. It's not that I doubt my methods or don't want anyone knowing, it's just that I don't want to give uneducated people the wrong idea.
I'll also add my voice to the chant - GO CONNIE
