Well it depended much on the BF for me.
Things that went over well were a copy of a new videogame that he had been drooling over, a six pack, and new stuffing for the bean bag chair.
A different BF appreciated me inviting over all of his friends on a Sunday morning along with a nice shiny box of new paintballs and cooking them all lunch while they watched football.

sheila, well i know what i think the best thing in life is....and that it's free
lisha, i'm not sticking meat on my forehead and yelling 'mush' in my house! yikes!!!! LOL....sounds like a cool trip though.
brandon, i think i've decided on musk ox. it sounds too neat to pass up! apparently it's pretty low-fat too.
will, thanks for the marinade recipe! do you think i could sub a dark beer for the wine? (though, i guess, if i have to open some wine to make a marinade, i'll sacrifice)

dennis got me thinking about beer (mmmmmmmm) and that maybe a nice meal, beer, a coupon or two, could be good.
there's a market 10 minutes from work that has a bunch of butchers. i was thinking maybe game might be nice, something different.
so, a question for the meat-eaters. what would you prefer? any of these that are better than others?
venison, buffalo, elk, ostrich, wild boar, musk ox, kangaroo, wild rabbit....
thanks
KOBE BEEF!!!!!

but musk ox! what are the chances of him having had musk ox before? ....though, actually, he did spend several months in nunavut doing grad work. huh. well, he's never mentioned eating musk ox. i think musk ox is cool....if i liked meat, i'd be all over that.
besides, where do you buy kobe beef outside of high-end steakhouses?

lisha, LOL....'free alternative' is the same thing
LOL!! You are not with me Jen.....ahhhhh youth is wasted on the young and "Raindrops keep falling on my head" HINT
Of course the only ones who will grasp that hint immediately are over 40 and Jim Nash!
sheila, well i know what i think the best thing in life is....and that it's free
Ahh yes, and you are correct, but this is about you giving and him receiving...
A six pack of beer, the UFC fight playing and a nice meaty meal. Sound like he is about to have a perfect pick me up night!

well then again, he's not lacking me giving, it's all part and parcel, no?
assuming i'm reading the lines of us being family-oriented correctly
friday we're picking up friends coming in from france at the airport and having dinner with them.
so, i think i've settled on saturday taking him to see quantum of solace, then a nice meal - musk ox using will's marinade/recipe, some fresh pasta (fettucini) w/asparagus and mushrooms in a homemade cream sauce, salad, and hopefully i can bake a cake saturday morning. and some chimay beer (trappist monk beer, it's so good). and then maybe a coupon

Japan? Seems the only meat shopping I'm doing these days are for the dogs, and if I'm lucky I get the left overs.

What about Connie's spanking gloves?
OK, leave it alone, Michael.<smacks own hand>
AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I almost mentioned lending my spanking gloves ..... but then I thought "Family site! Family site!"
Ok, this family site stuff has to stop!! This entire thread is absolutely screaming for punch lines of questionable taste and it's been completely pre-empted.

It's funny, although I'm a gun nut, the best gift that my wonderful wife ever got me was a 6' conservatory Grand Piano last year.
Touching a great piano is like touching an old lover again. I went faaaar too long not playing and practicing everyday, and I'm glad I returned to it - I'm a better person for doing so.
My wife *reallY* knows how to choose gifts.
Must.....fight......the urge....to make..........free gift joke.......
