I'm going to confess to being a little confused, then. I was responding to Simon Raban's question asking about the safety of feeding raw pork. Hence my answer about trich.
Nora's response seemed to be in answer to the pork question too, but referenced a shortage of Omega's, which may be true, but isn't a safety issue.
Oh...the hazards of threaded conversations! LOL!

The smallest I've found are the 400 for vit e, but I am shopping this week for better fish oil pills and will look for the lower dosage. I HATE having to rupture the little pills.
Also, can dogs eat walnuts? I am trying to add more to my diet and wondered about it before I give to dog.
Thanks.
You mean gelcaps, right (not pills)?
Since some nuts are toxic to dogs, and almost all are very high in phosphorous, I'd skip them.

I had a reason for asking, and it wasn't to point out that it might have been a typo.
Pill-form (dry) E isn't the best choice. JMO, and since it's rarely brought up, it's not likely that we need to go into it.

While we're on the topic of supplements. I presently don't give her any vitamin C. Should I? If so, how much (10 pounds)?
THanks

Funny, I was thinking of this thread last night.
At risk of confusing the conversation further....I forgot to buy tripe this weekend at the store, remembered I'd forgotten at the grocery store, and got some baby food. The dogs LOVE it.
Otherwise, yes, I feed my dogs raw pork (on occasion) and all is fine.
Interested in vitamin C response....Teagan gets Ester C but she is the only one who receives a supplement for that and that's a joint thing.
Teagan!

I don't generally give vit/min supplements unless it's for a reason, either*. In general, I'd rather give the foods that contain the vitamins.
C, though, is a little different: Dogs do synthesize Vitamin C in their livers, unlike humans. (In fact, I think most mammals do.) But it's so beneficial in so many ways and has such a solid safety profile that many authoritative sources have no problem with supplementing C.
This is JMO. I personally don't supplement C, but if I had a dog who was prone to UT stone formation or who had another health challenge that might be benefited with extra C, I would not hesitate. In fact, if I did not have the access that I do have to organic produce all year at good prices (and hence the knowledge that I am giving lots of vitamins "on the hoof" to my dogs in their diet), I would give this: http://leerburg.com/43.htm
*For example, I give E with fish oil
All JMO

THanks It'll vary with each individual. It can be given to bowel tolerance. When there is too much, diarrhea will result.
I don't know if you will have a powder or tablet form.
Either way, start small and work your way up.
The leerburg type says 1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon per day for a small dog. For your tiny one, I'd start even smaller. The only thing that will hurt is making it take longer to find out your dogs dosage.
I always lean toward a slow approach for everything. Someone who has given it to more dogs will have more experience, and could give you a definite starting point.
Does that make sense?
The short version is, start out with a small amount. In the case of your tiny dog, a REALLY SMALL amount. Try it for a few days and then slightly up that amount. Keep gradually increasing the amount, and if it gives your dog diarrhea, back up to the last amount that did not give your dog diarrhea.

Thanks, Mike.
I was thinking more along the line of the vitamin C that I take.
Is it the same or different. Also, if it's the same, is there some kind of mg dosage or something.
Thanking you in advance for your Wise advice.
