Perhaps you just misread the intent of the posters.
I don't think anyone is in any way trying to make you feel obligated for anything.
However, this is an interesting story, in light of the comments of this thread and topic and many would like to read it.
As I'm sure you are learning, many/most on this forum don't easily rely on anything without some sort support, justification and defense.
Smart thinkers.
Hi Nora,
I still haven't read any of the posts in between my replies. I was PM'd by another forum member and told, direct quote, "I feel you are in fact obligated to respond".
I don't fault anyone for wanting evidence, it's just not available any longer. News sources commonly remove stories from their archives. Yeah, it's in California. I spent an hour looking for both it and another story from around the same time where a former NFL star had his cattle shot by thrill killers, thinking I might have gotten the two stories mixed. I couldn't find that one either. I have a friend who lives near that NFL player (can't remember his name) and I posted a comment about it on her MySpace profile, I referenced that for the date (Nov. 30 '08). This was in Newcastle and the former was in the Sutter-Buttes. The only story I can find that even remotely relates is about two teenagers thrill killing 13 deer in the Buttes, also from the same time frame. My wife remembers both of the other stories as does the friend I mentioned.
Damn straight he was obligated, you don't throw stuff like that out about veterans, particularly on this forum, without a cite. I get sick and tired of the MSM playing the same song over and over "(pick your war) veteran goes insane and shoots ....."
Wow, you both just pole vaulted the conclusion gap. Yeah, I'm so anti-veteran. I was born on Beale AFB, my father served 2.5 years in 'nam, he served 26 years before retiring as an E10, I spent my first 11 years on Beale, my mother served as an AF nurse for 12 years, and many of my friends are vets...one in Delta Force with two years of time in Afghanistan and Iraq flying a black hawk. Oh, but I don't have a news story for any of that so I'm obviously lying, right? I insulted veterans by telling a real story? I insulted veterans by saying this dog would still be alive if it had been crated? I insulted veterans by saying that Luttrell acted like a true professional? Who have I trolled by making my TWO original posts in this topic, that simply go against YOUR grain? The only reason I even looked at this topic again was because I was contacted. Had that member not sent me a message, I wouldn't be typing this message. Such trollish behavior. (that last sentence is sarcasm, by the way.) It appears that you're trolling me at the moment...which isn't surprising coming from such a raging hypocrite (emphasis on the rage).
And Dennis, the only thing I'm obligated to do is die some day. You can both go to hell with your BS, arrogant, condescending, elitist, and hypocritical attitudes. This is exactly why I didn't bother coming back to this topic until I was contacted.
I won't be coming back to this topic. Feel free to continue lowering my "star rating" like the children you seem to enjoy acting like.
Michael,
My sincere apologies, but when someone is posting a fictional "vet goes wild with fully automatic weapon" story that I know is BS, I call them on it.
People posting rumors and gossip without any ability to back up the crazy story is one of the reasons that vets take so much grief.
I'll lock the topic, and again my apologies if I offended anyone.
