Wow. Poor little thing. Glad that it seems she will be fixable & the injuries will not affect he overall growth. She found the right 'soft place to land'. Good luck with her & her recovery.
I know where you are at with your new "house guest". About a month ago we had a snow storm and very bone chilling winds. We received a call from my son, who had a greyhound show up on his property out in the country.
Long story short, we brought him home with us. We gave him love, a warm place inside our home near the woodstove and really good food! He is missing a toe and about 14 inches off his tail.
We contacted the greyhound adoption people for help and surfed the internet reading all we could about greyhounds. Our greyhound people asked us to check his ears for tattos and sure enough both ears were marked.
We found out from those ears that he will be 8 years old March 12th....he ran 94 races in his career at the tracks.....won 10 of those races and knew every race where he placed and how he ran. There were 4 from his litter that raced. We know the name of the breeders BUT they went out of business a couple of years ago and we couldn't trace the present owners. Which is fine with us.
Since we know his name as well, this fella has become part of our "family" of 4-legged friends. He is an absolute sweetheart and just as quiet and laid back as you could possibly want.
Our trip to the vet cost us about $300 to get some surgery done, bloodwork, etc. Worth every penny!!! AND WE HIGHLY SUGGEST anyone looking for a great companion - don't over look this great breed.........soooo many needing homes from the race tracks!!
Some call us "Saints" for taking him in - but what choice do we really have?? As with you....how do you refuse the beauty behind those loving eyes when they are in need?!
I wish you all the best of luck with your new addition and hope all ends up well health wise. We feel thid dog is blessing. We didn't need another dog, since we have 4 Bouviers and it takes alot to feed. But I wouldn't have changed anything about how he found his way to us. He will probably stay and spend his senior years with us. He gained 3 lbs in 2 weeks and is getting along good with everyone. He doesn't make eye contact with the other dogs and just minds his own business.
I asked the greyhound people if they ever sit? The reply broke my heart......."They usually don't have a large enough crate for that".....can you imagine spending 22 hours in a crate that size for over 4 years..........ugh!!! This fella has gone from looking like he was walking on hot coals and his head down.......to runny & playing and cuddling up on his dog bed. He still steals things off the counter from time to time. But so what?!
I am so happy to hear that you will be able to give this pup the care she needs and that it is fixable!
Secondly, Congrats on having a new family member!
This baby girl has the supreme fortune of you finding her, she is one lucky girl. She will eat like a queen and betcha she will be the happiest pup ever, knowing that her miseries are soon to be over!
I just want to say great job doing such a wonderful thing Michael!
I want to wish her the very best recovery for her upcoming surgery and wish you and your family much happiness with your new
addition!!!!
