OK, here's one for y'all from today.
Cali and I are in a public field. She goes to run with a pair of dogs who arrive. I go over to make sure it's all cool.
One owner says to me, in an syrupy. precious-like voice, "ooh, I guess it's fine, but Scout's with her best friend. We were hoping they could have some one-on-one time." ONE-ON-ONE TIME???? Are you sh#@*in' me???? First of all, this is a public field. Secondly, are you insane???? I did say something to the effect, "you're joking, right?" Then I shut up.
Pity is, this is not the first time I've gotten the "our dogs are best friends" speech. Still shaking my head.

At the park again tonight, after someone asked about LJ, and I told them he's Labrador, Weimaraner & Chihuahua, the man (with several missing front teeth) said, oh that's neat, I've got a "chaw waw", she's in the car now. Purebred Mexican chaw waw, straight from Mexico. I should go get her so you can see her.
I politely said we were on our way out of the park, and turned tail and left.

My favorite happened again this week.
I was out walking Yote and we came up to a loose dog in a front yard with the owner right there. If I think I have time I will turn and go the other direction, but occasionally that isn't an option
I stopped about a house and half down the street and said EXCUSE ME, you might want to hold your dog for a minute.
To which they always respond "oh its ok he loves all other dogs!" Then I have to yell back that my dog does not and would rather eat Foo Foo fluffy pants.
This always gets me a lovely look and a huff as they are forced to hold their dog. As I walk by with my properly restrained double collared and leashed dog.

My lab on occasion has been thought to be a pit as well because she's a show style vs field style dog which people aren't used to.
I was asked if our Lab, also a show or British/English style, was a Bulldog/pitbull type mix. I was a little dumbfounded by this right away, but then laughed and said, no, he's a english style lab, purebred. The guy was surprised, then I had to explain the differences between the show style and the field style.
I too have gotten the "real dog" comments, but in the context that I have "real dogs". lol.
I've also had people ask me if all the dogs are mine (seems kind of odd to see one person walking three breeds and they're all big breeds, I guess), lol. No, they're all mine. Wow, you have really good control of them. Yes, I know.
I did have one lady tell me that I needed the Dog Whisperer's help, probably because I was walking all three dogs, had my kid in her stroller and we happened to walk past a house that had 3 barking labradors (going completely nuts) and my dogs wanted to go towards the fence and bark back. I did "regain" control after a few short minutes, but the ladies comment irritated me a little, if I hadn't walked past that yard, they would've been just fine.

Today I had someone yell at me for raising my voice to my dog....we were out playing frisbee (off leash) and a girl came out to lay outside in the sun. He caught the frisbee and the girl started jumping around swatting a bug. I told him to come once, he started to then got distracted by the girl waving a towel so I raised my voice and told him to get his furry butt here NOW....and he did immediately. He was then praised and I waited until the girl stopped flailing, then we resumed our game....
I was then screamed at by crazy older woman for yelling at my dog....how dare I "break his spirit"
I admit...I nearly died laughing on the spot....

Is that a rock(rottweiler)? I like to mess with people and tell them my dog is hyena mix when they ask. 9 out of 10 people believe it.

OMG I had someone tell me that when I asked what their dog was mixed (adorable spotty thing with a rottweiler body and the most adorable rounded bat ears in the world). They were thrilled when I laughed at the joke...apparently they had someone call animal control and report them for having a wild hybrid.....fyi it turned out it was a out of a dalmation/basset by a rottie/shepherd...the result of their nutty neighbor's insane backyard breeding.

I had someone argue with me about what kind of dog she was.
"Very cute lab mix! Labs don't usually have ears up. Wonder what she's mixed with"
"Thank you, but she's actually a black German Shepherd"
"Noooooo! Are you sure? She is too small for a German Shepherd."
"Really sure."
"Did you get her from the pound?"
"More like a German Shepherd breeder."
"No, you didn't. Can't be a German Shepherd."
"Really sure I did."
I walked away shaking my head. Usually I have to explain the European working line and colors and how they are smaller and get something like, "I never knew German Shepherds could be black and so small. She's beautiful!"
I'll admit she is small (close to 50 pounds and 11 months), but she LOOKS like a shepherd for crying out loud!
