Excellent news!
Don't forget: no raw feeding for a dog on antacids.
I was thinking that I'd probably consider blendering up his chicken and rice (once it cools to room temp) into a kind of easy-to-swallow milkshake-type consistency.

Blending is a great idea - I'm just about to feed him his first mini-meal.
And big thanks on the antacid reminder, I wasn't planning on feeding raw anytime soon, but I wasn't aware of that conflict - what about the combo isn't good?
Glad the beasty is improved and home and alls well that ends well!
Good for you to catch it quick, take him to a quality place, have a real diagnosis.
Happy End of Memorial Day :}
Glad that Oscar is home & feeling better. Tonight you can BOTH get a good night's sleep snuggled up together. LOL Pleasant dreams!
Haha. I'm still in trouble with the BF for the last time I let Oscar sleep in the bed (btw, he's a TERRIBLE bed hog - Oscar, not the BF ), but I might have to make an exception tonight... all I wanna do is snuggle with him.
Ana, the diagnosis was that *something* irritated his esophagus recently, and most likely the stress from our recent travels compounded things, causing the bloating. The bloating is thought to be secondary to the irritation in his throat, which is why he wasn't better the day after the gas had gone down. I have no idea what irritated his throat - he's not a chewer or swallower of non-food items, so it's unlikely that he ate something sharp other than his RMBs... I dunno. I wish there were a clearer answer, but sometimes there are too many factors at play to sort it out definitively, and I'm just glad we're on the other end of the mystery.
I'm just about to feed his second small meal for today - I think he's pretty starving, but we're just going to have to take it slow... so far there's been no indicators of anything amiss besides a few extra burps here and there, and a LOT of sleep (I'd be exhausted too after all that). But sleep well tonight we will indeed.
