thank you.
OK this morning she had a log that was dark, like black and shiny.
This afternoon, she had a runny, not watery, stool that was yellowy-brown and had a little mucus in it, along with a couple of tny lfecks of red blood. She has not had another stool since then.
What is GP, gastric parasites?
I will call the doctor and make an appointment to bring her and her poop in to see him.
Dehydration is when the neck skin just stays in place when you pinch it, right?

I just mean General Purposes (GP).
Yes, one way to test is to grasp the loose skin over the dog's shoulders and then release. It should snap back into place right away. Also, examine the gums, which should be nice and pink and not sticky, and gently press a finger against the gums until the area becomes white and release, and it should return to pink right away.
However, this dog is drinking plenty, I believe? And no more water poop. Still, it never hurts to make very very sure about hydration. That's why we bait the water.
(BTW, re an earlier post: chicken doesn't have to be thawed to use in water for baited water. )
So did you get an appointment?

She wants more after I give it to her.

Yes, I got an appointment, I think I will just take her over there this afternoon. do you think that there really is a possiblity that she will get all this gastic distress figured out without having to go the vet to get a presription. do other dogs get it sorted out?

I am very, extremely even, willing not to go to the vet. I try to do all things home remedy when I can wih my whole family. Praise God my whole family is very healthy and apart from one nature lovng daughter who is hyper allergic to poison ivy, we don't go to the doctor, very rarely.
My other pets are cats who are also healthy. i vaccinate them every few years or so, one is 19 yo and has been vaccinated 2x. She is healthy as any 95 yo lady can be.
But when somebody doesn't respond to directed and well thought out home remedy, I will take them to the doc.
So d you think I need to hold off and wait to see what happens a few more stools from now?

I can only say what I do. But remember, I'm old, multi-dogged, experienced, and even canine-nutrition-educated. I'd probably be at the vet's soon if even one of those factors was missing (well, except old).
Don't forget to take samples, whether you go today or tomorrow..

Let us know!
I would want her tested for giardia and coccidia as well as worms.
Also if I even begin to suspect dehydration I go for some clear pedialyte, about half and half with water.
Mine like the flavored too, but unless I am in a pinch I get the clear.

Well, we're back. The vet was wonderful Jennifer. He answered all my questions and was patient with me. He found hookworm and a bacteria and another kind of parasite. I got her wormed again, I had given her a triple wormer abotu 10 days ago, and he gave me Albon for something, those bacterial parasites. She has to be rewormed in 3 weeks and take the Albon for 7 days. She should slowly get back to normal he said. He also said to feed her normally now. So here we go!
Ya'll have been marvelous. i thank God for you bth.
