Brendon I have to admit that I do not always agree with your posts but I was not there so I can not judge you. As no one else should. You reasons could have been just or not. Only you know.
I know I'm a little slow on the trigger on this thread(no pun intended!), but aren't we talking about a 5-6 month old pup thats shy around people? Now someone suggests shooting him!? Huh? This mentality,if adopted by all would surely put all dog trainers out of business. Stong obedience training and socialization has to be the way to go here. Every dog that is nervous as a pup isn't necessarily going to be "fear" aggressive. give this dog some time for training to work for pete's sake! If the dog becomes dangerous then by all means put it down..don't pass the problem on to someone else. But in the mean time, lets give this pup a chance.
Thanks for the intro!! Seriously though, I'm in no position to judge Brendan. Perhaps he had his reasons for handling things the way he did. This dog is just too young to be giving up on. We can't go around destroying every "shy" dog we see just because they will never be capable of being service dogs or whatever someone expects them to live up to. This dog may end up being an excellent pet. Many dogs like this respond very well to strong obedience training. They take comfort in having a strong leader.
I agree 100%. They learn to live for structure (and routine) in their life. Once that is removed they return to their old habits. I will not put Brendan down because I was not their. Good post.
