Richard I was going to keep my comments to myself but you're last post was not only PERFECT it was something that needed to be said. I tried to involve myself in the Schutzhund crowd here in Kansas City about a year or so ago and found the people to be rude and very unaccepting of anyone new to the sport. Well let me tell you it was a complete turn off and still is to this day! I have such a bad taste in my mouth I just wanna spit. I was never welcomed or introduced as a new person needing help. They were all too concerned with staying in their little group of friends and talking about other peoples dogs behind their backs. The next minute the were praising that persons dog when they were face to face with the owner. What a bunch of crap and hipocritical hooey! I for one will probably never go back to another Schutzhund trial or support these people in anyway. At least not here in Kansas City unless something changes dramatically which I doubt. These people are way too snobish to turn over a new leaf and do something to help an inexperienced handler. Boy I get pissed when I think about how I was treated!
Glenn, and here I thought things would be better in Kansas City than they are here. Maybe we won't consider moving there afterall... (well, I guess I wouldn't go that far!) But really though, it's about the same sentiments here. We are not really involved with our local Schutzhund club, but other clubs have left me wanting to avoid rather than embrace for the same reasons.
Beth, don't you live near Richard or go to the same club as him? He makes me think that the clubs in Arizona have alot better clubs than we do here. I'm always hearing positive and good things from Schutzhund people in other States. They all tell me something to this effect: "Well our club is not like that! We welcome newcommers." All I can say is I'll believe it when I see it! Anyway maybe this subject is moving too far off topic so I'll just end this by saying that if you do move here and want to get involved with the Schutzhund people just remember you were warned! I was thinking of moving to Az.
I don't do Schutzhund. The group I train with trains for NAPD. The funny thing is the Schutzhund (read GSD) people come out to our trials and run down the dogs participating all the time. The funny thing is when they have trouble with their dogs they come to my trainer to get the problem fixed, and they can't seem to get a dog entered in what should be a fairly easy trial for dogs of such exellent quality!!!
If you can't be a Good Example, then You'll just have to Serve as a Horrible Warning. Catherine Aird.
Glenn, it's a big city, lots of different types of clubs. I've leaned closer to the breed clubs, but even then I just can't hang around them for too long. So now I just don't bother trying to get involved anymore. I've actually never met Richard...I guess I'M NOT WORTHY!!!! Just kidding Richard.
And you're right, we're way off the topic, I expect this thread to shut down real soon.
Glenn welcome to the real world it doesn't have to be Schutzhund it can be any sport the kiddies participate in .BTW you should hear what they say behind your back on this board. I’m kidding of course its VanCamp.
