Kelly, a mod here with a temporary internet connection issue, emailed me this and asked that I post it for her.
KELLY POSTS:
I just got a chance to read this thread and while it's a bit confusing, I think I got the jist of it. Your old dog is leaking urine and has a thick vaginal discharge that one vet does not believe is infection.
Urinary incontinence can be caused by many different things- one of which is being spayed. It can be easily controlled if it's spay incontinence.
It can also be caused by bladder stones. Unlike kidney stones, they can operate and get bladder stones out. My old Lab Mokie had bladder stones removed when she was 5 and never had any other issues. There is a medication they can give that helps to regulate the PH in the urine to help reduce the chance of stones.
Vaginal discharge can be any kind of infection. Spayed dogs can get a pyometra if there is enough "stump" left. It's generally treated by antibiotics successfully. You said that your dog has been on several different meds for infection- what was she on, do you remember?
I would want to talk to the vet that did not think it was an infectious discharge and ask WHY she thought it was not an infection. If I didn't get any answers from that vet, I would go to another.
I am also confused by your last post- why are you crying? Has something happened to your dog?
I understand you are scared and confused. Crying is not going to help. Lets get your dog on the road to recovery and then you can break down and cry all you want.
Right now, I am dealing with a 12 year old dog with a brain tumor, a 9 year old dog with an obscure disease causing her toe nails to break and fall off, a 9 year old dog that was attacked by a great dane and has a giant gash on her side, and a 10 year old dog with a wicked ear infection that is not going away. And I am NOT crying. I probably WILL when my dogs are healthy again, but not before.
You have to be strong for your dog. Your dog will get comfort from your confidence. Even if you aren't confident, FAKE it for the dog.
