Caterina is still seizure free and her nails look GREAT!!
Shyner, however, appears to be fading. I do not think she has a whole lot of time left- there are times when she is not interested in food one minute, and 20 minutes later will lick the chrome off her bowl... I think the tumor is affecting her cognition some. I've seen her stumble a couple of times...
I've been watching her closely for signs of her no longer wanting to go on, but she still looks and acts like she is enjoying her life- she will play in the snow and snuggle up for belly rubs.
The day is fast approaching, I know this. Knowing does not make it any easier to accept. Knowing does not take the pain away. Knowing does not dry the tears.
This hurts. This sucks. I hate it.
I was given the following by a friend that is a priest, and while it may not mean much to anyone else, it means the world to me (he also said the prayer at mass):
PRAYER TO ST. FRANCIS FOR SHYNER
Good St. Francis, you loved all of God's creatures.
To you they were your brothers and sisters.
Help us to follow your example
of treating every living thing with kindness.
St. Francis, Patron Saint of animals,
watch over Shyner and keep her safe.
When it is her time,
take her into your arms and love her.
Amen.
I always try to take some comfort in thinking that a dog really doesn't "know", like we know, when time is short, and that they are not feeling regrets, thinking of time lost etc.
It is a mercy, for them, the not knowing.
They do, however, retreat into themselves somehow, and that makes them withdraw from us. It's all so very sad. I feel for you.
One of your assistants, Kelly, could use some strength and acceptance also.
It's hard working for you sometimes, while the rewards are great and immeasurable it comes at a heavy price.
Oh, Betty, you just made me cry- the only reason I can stand tall at times like this is knowing that I have you and so many others behind me ready to pick up the pieces when I fall.
For those that don't know, my last name is Franks- a diminutive form of Francis. So, I blame Fate for all of this
