It's hard to believe how VICIOUS she can get, and I mean VICIOUS towards Molly, and some (but not all?) other dogs, not to mention our poor cat who has been hiding out in the basement since her "Fiona encounter".
Richard, I re-read this entire thread, trying to see how I might have run off the rails in my "over concern" for Good OLD Molly's peace of mind -- And in all fairness to myself, it was in response to your remarks such as this one above ... I don't know whether you over-stated the situation here or not (?) but that's why I have shared my worries with you.

Candi, your concerns are certainly not unfounded and no, I did not overstate the situation. It was the tone and intensity of your previous post to which I was reacting.
Molly is and has been a most loyal and faithful family dog. We got her just a few months after we moved into our current house, and none of our children know a life without her. I love that dog and she is always the happiest member of my family to see me when I get home from work (as in more happy to see me than my kids are...).
This is only Fiona's 7th week in our home, but I will not even consider "re-homing" her; she is now a permanent member of our family. I am committed to this dog and to educating myself and my family in working thru her dirty little doggie aggression/dominance issues as best as we can. Fiona's overall behavior continues to improve and I feel like we are just getting started.

That's wonderful, Richard -- I wish you ALL the BEST with Fiona's rehabilitation Project ... I especially hope that Molly and your Cat enjoy living with her just as much as you do! ... I'm sure you will continue to keep us posted, thanks.

IME, young dogs can be brats. New dogs can be brats. They're testing the waters to see what works, to see what they can get away with. I expect to see it. When my sweet, adorable puppy was 10 w/o he launched himself at my older dog with a serious growl and took away her frisbee. I quietly picked him up by the scruff of the neck and took it away from him. A few weeks later he tried resource guarding a bag of food from her. I told him to knock it off and made him go lay down. He's a dog. He wants the good stuff. I get it! But he needs to follow the rules if he wants the good stuff and not be a bully. My older one had to learn the same when she was the youngster. Management is key while they're figuring this out! If I can't supervise, the new dog or pup is crated. Be consistent - it gives a dog security. Dogs are smart. As Fiona figures out that following the rules is what works then life should get more harmonious.

I'm glad that Fiona has a dedicated owner, Richard. Chance started out on similar footing in our house, being a somewhat larger animal, the stakes were, and are, higher - things are still not perfect but much better than they were. I wish your family the best in adjusting to your new normal.

I am sorry you feel this way, Richard, and hope that you will not abandon your thread -- When you post on a public forum, folks with many different opinions & various writing styles will reply to your messages ... For the sake of your pets' safety & security, please do not take the remarks of other contributors as some sort of personal affront, when all they care about is the animals' well-being & peace of mind.

FWIW, The use of lots of caps and bold type is almost universally veiwed as internet speak for yelling. So frequent use is generally considered offensive or rude by most regular internet posters.
