Wow, that list of dogs sounds crazy. If I didn't know your age I'd guess you must be at least 100 years old! But maybe all those dogs kept you much younger.
Of course if your wife needs a break she deserves it absolutely. Though the word "break", Bob, sounds a bit suspicious. It means not an end but promises continuation! Aren't you a little rascal??? I hope this will not "travel down the leash" (quote Mike) to your Bassid!
By the way I too adore those dogs. You call that breed crazy and little. I always thought they were big, (not high, but long, too long to perform a curve around an obstacle? ), and calm, not crazy . Am I confounding them with another breed?

72 in Sept. Married 50 yrs 4 days later to who is still my best friend ever........and she eve still like me....Go figure.
She's had dogs as a child but they were just something to play with in the yard.
Always super supportive of my to many hobbies with dogs at the top so shell have a lot of say on what comes in when Trooper's time comes.
In the almost 50 yrs we've been married we've never had less then 2-3 sometimes four dogs at a time and I chose all of them.
As to one of both I will always say the best "watchdog" combo is a small yapper to fire up the big dog.
My JRT would alert on someone halfway down the block and that ALWAYS got the GSDs or whatever big dog I had in the combination to fire up.
ALL the terriers are crazy but easily managed IF you have the right mindset.
I never really found them to be"stubborn" or "ignoring me" as many terrier folks claim.
Push a terrier to hard and they fold or you get bit.
I like a dog that's willing to bite me in the ass if I get stupid.

So in order to estimate your intelligence I would need to see the scars on your ass. But this is of course the privilege of your wife. 50 years married, congrats. Why shouldn't she like you? If she didn't I guess you wouldn't be together any more.
50 yrs with such a lot of dogs means she had to treat many dog bites Well, I actually don't believe you've ever been bitten by one of your own dogs - you must be kidding - unless perhaps accidentionally, but not with intention of the dog.
My husband and I by the way are married since 46 yrs and before that together 6 yrs. And go figure: We still like and occasionally detest each other. Both a bit thickheaded sometimes.
Are all terriers as you describe them apart from the individual characteristics? I've been googling for the breeds and there are so many different terriers. Wish you good luck, you'll know which one to choose. But buy some strong material to protect your ass. Just in case.

Real beauties and very plump as they should be at this age.
I keep saying that Trooper, my present 10 yr old GSD will be my last GSD but then I see a litter like this.
Me being just shy of 72 my wife says it's time for another small house dog.
That will probably be another one of the crazy, bassid little terriers.
I'll show her!
HM-M-M-M... Bob, might you ever consider getting either an Airedale or a Standard Schnauzer ??? I love both of those breeds -- Not too big, not too little

Well everyone is a week old now and gaining like crazy!
Our smallest puppy (Zombie Slayer) is weighing in at 2 lbs 3 ounces, and our largest puppies (Widow Maker and Red Rhino) are tied at 2 lbs 8 ounces!
Ironhide eats around 6 lbs of raw a day just to keep up with their demand - sometimes a little more.
They all need their nails clipped again, it is the chore I dread the most. They are always flailing around and I am so scared I am going to take a toe off lol. But the more I do it, the more they get used to it and by the time they leave here, they will all lie nicely on their backs on a lap or set of legs to have their nails clipped... well that is the hope. There are a few puppies in this litter that might give me a run for my money
They still look like potatoes, but here are a few cute shots from today

The nail clipping thing may be more about being on their back then actually fighting the clipping.
My brother has a Presa and when brother got him at three yrs old the only issue was he HATED getting his nails trimmed.
The vet and no groomer would even try.
Withing a couple of weeks with marker training we had him laying on his side sleeping while we did his nails.

I thought that too, but the last two days I have had them on their backs for pictures and social time, and they were totally fine. I think the problem is more that they are ALWAYS hungry, so every time I touch them they start freaking out searching for a nipple. To get my pictures I had to put them on mom and let them fall asleep on the nipple, gently pull them off and move them 6 inches over to the faux sheep skin. It took an hour to get those 9 pictures LOL! Some puppies needed multiple attempts even! Like wrangling baby octopuses!
I am so thankful my breeder started nails with my puppies before I got them, they laid calmly on their side from very early on to have their nails trimmed and grooming. It is something I really work on with puppies, its super important imprinting. As they get older, I will do nail sessions after they have played, so they are already tired. Then I will lay them down on my lap and trim their nails while they fall asleep.
It's so amazing when you can help someone teach their dog how great it can be to be groomed. Kudos! Bet the owner was so thankful!

The pups are looking great at one week old! I can only imagine how tired you must be, but I know it's rewarding, too. I was going to ask you a question, but with a little help from Google, I answered it myself. I know you said your litter theme was "Firework" since they were born on the 4th of July. (And I do realize you live in Canada, and it's not an official holiday there). But I was stumped by the individual names you gave the pups. I have now learned that each one is the name of a different firework product! I don't keep up much on this kind of stuff. I stay inside and close my windows and doors when people are lighting fireworks around here. Very cool idea, though!

The breeder of both my Border Terriers was outstanding with all her puppies.
When each one of mine came home at 12 weeks they were 90% house broken and responded perfectly to "come" with very low lever distractions.

Niomi, I think I had interrupted your thread - a bit more above - with my exchange with Bob. Forgive me for this. It was no intention. nor desrespect I often react on something which I find funny, interesting ... spontaneously.
