You do not want to go to the 82nd, they are just legs with wings
Jeff,
You lost me there buddy, I'm a 8duece guy! Did two combat tours recently and wouldn't trade any of my guys for anyone from any other unit. I really believe "EGOS" would have gotten us wiped out quite a few times. If you also served in regiment you know what I'm talking about. I personally prefer "quiet professionals". I didn't find anything wrong with regiment, but we did the same stuff in division with a little more time off. The only draw back to division, is all the old timers (bless them) from WWII who jumped in are all senators or retired senators or congressman, so when they say we want our pony shows division gives them to em'. But hell third battalion is the same way, they are the dog and pony for regiment.

Chris,
right on all counts. I was giving you / 82nd a hard time. For all who read this board, the 82nd is a fine unit and we should be glad to have them. Chris, check PM's.

No, offense, but I forgot to mention, the 75th is getting regimental dogs, yes K-9's will be going to Regiment. Thats a plus there for them, And of course, you know what breed, yes, the mighty MALINIOS they are getting like 10 ten dogs for the regiment.

Are you saying that the Ranger Reg. is getting dogs?
If so - bad idea ( based on a full tour by me in the 1st Ranger Bn. ) overall, they don't fit the vast majority of Ranger missions.
Attached dog teams would work just as well, and be *much* more cost and manpower effective.

I'm not sure if they are going to change their TO&E to allow R.I.P. passed MP's into the regiment to handle the dogs or not. That probably would be a better alternative, and frankly, I see that more likely to happen, than sending a ranger down to Lackland for training. Then again, sometimes regiment has more money than they know what to do with, so who knows, but I'll watch it since I'm based here.

Well, Group tried the attached dog handler team concept and it totally failed due to the fact that even the most physically fit MP's couldn't keep up with the deployed A-teams. This may be where the idea is coming from.

That is none sense, They are not going to give ranger's dog, if they need it they will make an attachment from NAVY, ARMY, or MARINES. I'm based at fort lewis part of the Stryker Brigade, next door is 2nd BAT. I know some of the guys there and they don't have dogs, nore are they going to get dogs. Only MP's get them and they become an attachment to line units. We were given those attachments in Iraq to search for caches. Just like any line unit the dogs need support. They have vet's and a support unit located at a safe FOB incase the dogs have problems. A few dogs given to a ranger unit would need a support.

Chet,
although I see your disbelief brother, I'm stationed right here with regiment, also, remember my cousin whom you were looking for a place to board his dogs upon his PCS move there, he was the first to tell me about it, and he has been in regiment for 10 straight years. I asked another buddy, and he said yes. To my knowledge they have been authorized, and are getting them, but as we sit here battling about how they will be implemented I'm sure they are hashing out details also, which would be why there not into operation yet. I'm going to get with the MPs here and ask them also, I have trained with the kennel master a few times. I got this information from several sources. One really good one being a 1SG, who came in my instructor hut and saw a leerburg catalog on my desk and he said, hey you know regiment is getting dogs like this. This came out of the blue, after I had already been told this by others currently in regiment. Who knows it's the new Army, we're transforming remember, LOL it'll be intresting to see the training if they do.
