Well, I did a lot of AKC competition obedience in the Cleveland, Ohio area and the National K-9 school in Columbus was considered a big joke. A few wannabe handlers took their course and it sure didn't seem to have helped them any.
But as a previous poster said, it's a lot more about the quality of the handler themselves than the school that they attend. A trainer with a good background and experienced in competition and training will do well no matter what school he attends. That being said, going to any school but the Tom Rose school or Triple Crown Academy is a big mistake, in my eyes - it's going to start you a path that just isn't as good as the real schools would place you on. And I wouldn't think that an experienced trainer would even go to the lower tier schools, it's pretty easy to see that they are not worth the money.
And Daniel, going to a dog training school without a firm background is just a waste of time. There is to substitue for experience - even the best schools can't really bring a beginner dog trainer up to speed, that's the work of years of training.
thanks alot I am beginning to see it is better to just start getting your hands "dirty". just working on my dog.
They had told me the will not train a pit bull in any form of bite training because once they bite they don't let go. This seems to me they believe the myth of locking jaws. oh well.
Pffft....if they believe that old wife's tale, you're better off not training with them anyhow.
We had a Pit Bull that nice clean outs at a SchH club that I belonged to. It's a shame when so-called dog professional's will buy into the myths that darken a good breed's reputation...
Our Schutzhund club has a number of pits. In fact, probably 0ne of our best dogs is a fantastic pit called Chief. Untitled other than a CGC because of a lazy owner.

Enjoyed the pictures of the cattle dog. I am looking for a dog to train in obedience and I think the cattle may be a good match for me
