Jason, I think the problem is that genetics is still such a relatively young science. All the theories are a GREAT starting place, but unless you are talking about a trait controled by only one gene (ie color - if you exclude the paling gene and white, livers, and blues <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> ), the theory doesn't work in ALL cases. And that causes the people who have experienced a different outcome to take that theory w/a grain of salt.
And who's to say the geneticist are always correct anyway? If you don't learn something new everyday, you go to bed as ignorant as you got up! Debate is healthy, tho any time you get a bunch of "alpha dog/bitch" people together, things tend to get heated.
....If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you Yet make allowance for their doubting too.....
(From IF by Rudyard Kipling)
Jason, I put that fluff in because I don't want what I have to say showing up in partial teaser fashion under "Today's Active Topics" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
It takes a very big person to say what you just did on the list. I am at a loss for words . Please know that I didn't take what you said as anything other than a passionately felt position about something that unfortunately is not a simple topic to discuss -- and, I hope you didn't take what I said as anything other than a passionately felt position on my part either. If you took anything I said as more than that, I, too, apologize to you. I wish you all the best in your breeding program -- you obviously care a great deal about what you want to do and that's one of the most important ingredients for success.
VanCamp <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> -- I apologize for expressing myself above in more than 10 words <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
What the hell is going on here today? This board is goin' soft. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Everybodys kissing and making up. This does not bode well for my newly re-aquired ****star rating.
Hey VanCamp.....that's my star you stole!!!You dog you. Thats ok....I shut mine off anyway. The rating system is starting to get more personal than what it is you know. I guess someone didn't like my ASD breeder in your basement joke!LOL <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
TWINKLE TWINKLE little * how I wonder . . . . . . Oh, look, there's Tinkerbell <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> and what's that she has on the end of her magic wand?? There's joy in Mudville once again!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Now, while you boys go chase Tinky-pooh, I'm gonna go count sheeps <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I think Van Camp can do anything he see's fit to American GSD breeders, and any other breeder that produces working dogs that have no working ability.
I think they should make every breed have to pass some physical, mental, & agility test to be legally allowed to reproduce, PERIOD! I think even show dogs should have to pass some sort of test.
