Hi Jo-Ann. I know just what you are going through. If it is still mange as that form does not always go away right away, you are on the right track with her. Keep feeding her the diet you have, and thier is a shot that the vets have that boosts the dogs up, it was developed I believe from HIV research. It seems to help a lot. Also it will be getting cooler soon and I find that this helps alot. It could also just be detox, only a skin scapping could really tell if the Mange flarred up again. I hope this helps.

IF YOU WANT A GREAT DIET FOR YOUR PUPPY TRY THIS..... Solid Golds Hund n Flocken or millenia along with the Solid Gold Seameal Supplement and the Solid Gold Bonemeal. Do not feed the puppy food because you are adding fresh natural protien sources with the meat , eggs , and yogurt. Puppy food makes a pup go through growth spurts, so it is not ideal for healthy joint development. One meal with Solid Gold's Hund n Flocken lamb and rice hard mixed with a medium serving spoon of plain cultured yogurt, organic if you can get it, 1 raw egg yolk, small handfull of alfalfa sprouts, one teaspoon of cold pressed flax oil, small amount of finely grated raw carrot and apple with 500 milligrams of vitamin C. every day untill 12 weeks of age. the pup then needs to graduate to 1000 -2000 milligrams of vit. C daily from then on untill bowel tolerance. For the pups evening meal give your choice of raw slices of skinless chicken, hamburger, and or organ meat. Choose one of the meats per day, and do not combine them as the protien content will exceed the needs of what is neccessary for your pup. The vitamin C and other vitamin supplements will help ensure the development of healthy joints. Only do the supplements one time per day. To order Petmax hip health, MSM, call 1-800-Jeffers, Vit C is at the local market. These three supplements are imperative for the development of the pups structural health. To make a great health mix: Mix two cups nutritional yeast, 1 cup letchithin, 1 cup garlic flakes, and 1/4 cup kelp powder. Give one teaspoon untill 14 weeks and 1-2 tablespoons thereafter. This is an excellent diet program that ensures proper developmentof your new puppy. It is easy to follow, and you will yield excellent results, so please follow it carefully. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Solid Gold may work for some dogs but it is not a great choice for others. This is what I was feeding prior to going to a raw natural diet. My dogs were not overly fond of the food and one dog broke out in hot spots on it. I did take him off the food for awhile , the hot spots disappeared and so once again tried Solid Gold....he once again broke out in hot spots.
A freind of mine also had the same experience with one of her bullmastiffs.
I know that others have used Solid Gold and really like it and have good success....but it is not 'the' food for all dogs.

I too did solid gold for about 8 months without seeing any of the promised improvements. My dogs did not like it either. My GSD would go days without eating.

My dogs really like the Solid Gold, and have no problems with it. I tried them on Nutro, and my Lab had really bad allergies manifested in his ears, and my mixed breed had really itchy skin. When I switched to the Solid Gold, they cleared up quickly.
I try to add fresh meats, yogurt, eggs, and veggies (cutting back on the amount of kibble when I do this) as often as possible, but am not a person who has the time to prepare fresh, raw meals all the time, so finding a good kibble was really important to me (they do get beef bones frequently). I have to say that of all the commercially prepared kibbles I have researched and tried, this has been the best one for my dogs.

Tim it is really hard to know for sure but it could also be your dog detoxing. Some dogs when switched to a raw natural diet go through a period where they look awful. Thier body is ridding itself of the toxins etc that have been building up for some time.
3-4 wks. is not a long time. If you are feeding flax seed oil or seeds to your dog I would eliminate that. Some dogs do have allergies to this.

Curing a dogs food allergy is a very lengthy process that many people really do not understand.
For starters the dog should only get one source of protein (ie. hamburger) and one veggie, preferably the non-yeast type, like spinach. This and only this (no supplements, no treats, not oils, no vitamins etc.) needs to be fed for 2-3 months!!! It can take that long for all the allergy toxins to works its way out of the system and before you will notice any improvement. Then you can add another veggie source, and wait 1 month to see if condition re-appears if not go on to add one more item (ie. oil) and continue for another 1 month...etc. It is a lengthy process and most don't have the patience for this. I know I didn't.
What are you feeding here exactly? 3-4 weeks is too early to see an improvement in a dog with allergies.
