Through PMs and messages, it was very clear that there is NO WAY the dog would be euthanized, or even given to a shelter. I really hope this is some sort of miscommunication, but if not I'm seriously upset about this. Again, WTF?!?!
Thank you Jenni for doing this. I admit I wanted to take him when I first read this post, and would have done so if I had the ability to provide the right set-up for him in my home (separated from Lear). My heart has been heavy thinking about this poor dog.
Now I wonder just how truly dog aggressive Stark is. It might be more of an impression by the owner than actual fact.

Sandy, I agree. Last week I tested a Dutch Shepherd touted as animal aggressive by the no kill shelter. I saw none whatsoever. I told them they need to omit the animal aggressive quote or the dog may never be placed. Haven't checked lately to see if they took my advice.

I have run into this too. Even nothing more than excited barking is sometimes labeled "animal aggression."
I don't really care if he IS animal aggressive. I don't let the inmates run the asylum. I can keep him away from the others. It'll be work, since I have a very small house and 5 dogs residing there already, but worth it. It's all about rotation, common sense, and being diligent. Living alone and being relatively small, I am pretty used to being careful not to let certain dogs near others, because my chances of successfully breaking up a fight are slim to none. There's no room for error.
I'm betting he's not too bad, though. It seems like a lot of it is suspicion...like the suspicion that he's not good with kids, although he was fine with the kids he met. I'll figure out what makes him tick if they give me the chance, and place him accordingly. If I have to wait for some single person to come along w/no kids, dogs, cats, or friends, so be it.
Ok, let me clarify this for you people. My wife's post on the other board (germanshepherds.com) was just a sarcastic remark to the person who suggested we euthanize Stark. When I said we will NOT euthanize him, I meant it. I would only go as far as putting him in a shelter, that's it.
Jenni, thanks for wanting to take Stark from us. My wife sent you an email so maybe we can set something up.
