I thought this was settled?? I believe the Chief backed down about Euthing the dogs, he was just being a big d1ck when he said it
I heard that too, Dennis, yesterday at training club. I forgot to check it out.
Does anyone have any authoritative info?
No doubt...I'm curious too...why keep the petition going after the deadline?
What I am curious about is the following particular description information currently on the actual petition:
WE HAVE BEEN ASSURED THAT EUTHANIZATION IS NOT AN OPTION FOR THESE DOGS! Some believe this to be accurate- others do not. I cani non saranno uccisi. Los perros no serán matados.
I know for a fact the spanish part was not on there a couple days ago...I do not recall seeing the all caps part when I signed this petition. Anyone else know if that description has been there the entire time?

Edit reason: spacing
I haven't seen that on the petition before. I think keeping the petition going is a good thing. Just in case any other police chiefs get any ideas, they'll know there will be an outcry.
Update:
The Green bay aldermen voted 9 to 3 against extending the program (motion was to extend to March 1st to give more time for negotiations between the union and police administration).
This is a labor vs. administration issue. Chief isn't happy with the contract. Union has been trying to hold its ground. Aldermen have supported the chief in his administration of the department. It has gotten ugly and the fallout was the threat of euthanasia for the dogs (which due to public outcry has been assured not the case, the dogs will be offered to the handlers or other departments).
This isn't so much a dog issue as a labor issue that in my observations has become bitterly disputed over the last 10 years and about three police Chiefs and several union managements later.
There is still a chance for an amicable resolution to the problems that both sides perceive. The fallout though could be the loss of a very well established K-9 program in which the two handlers have a huge amount of experience not only with police dogs but also street experience in their community.
Keep signing the petition in support of both K-9 programs and law enforcement. The loss of such inexpensive (yep K-9 programs are cheap in the scheme of things and this one very inexpensive unless they have to start it up once again later) but effective tool that enhances the safety and efficacy of the first line in law enforcement...the street patrolman...would be tragic.
If we all continue to voice our support both sides will feel the need to bend to provide for their community.
Keep signing the petition, keep pressuring the admin and maybe they will meet in the middle and the community of Green Bay can keep its resources working for them.
Kevin, thanks for the comprehensive update. Just wanted to highlight this part of your post as well, for any people who may not have signed yet:
