Since 99% of people (Even in Texas!)have never SEEN a Texas Blue Lacy, they don't know WHAT Ranger is. Mostly they ask if he's a Weim and/or Pitbull cross.
Best convo: at a park couple of teen Gangsta wannabe's: "Yo! nice lookin' Pit. He for sale?"
Me: No, and he's not a pit. He's a Texas Lacy.
Them: Man, NO -- that ain't nuthin' but a Pit. Looks like a good 'un too Bet he could fight real good.
Me: No I bought him from a breeder. He's a registered Texas Lacy-- NOT a Pit!
Them: No, man. You got ripped off. That there's a Pit Bull -- a fightin' dog. Whoever you got him from sold you a Pit!
Me: Ok, whatever. He's still not for sale. (walked off)

I get this all the time with my Malinois as he is working type and they don't seem all that common where i live compared to German Shepherds or show line Malinois. Most say " Oh is he a German Shepherd cross ? and when i explain what he is they are like " a what ? " and look at me as if i am making it up !

I was walking on some hiking trails with my daughter and son-in-law. My son-in-law was in the lead and turned around and said, there is a dog up here off leash running around.
I went ahead and yelled "please get your dog on leash" and waited. I saw the couple putting the leash on, so I started walking by.
The lady started moving towards me and my dog Greta and Greta went nuts. Her hair was up and she looked like a porcupine and she started growling.
The lady keep coming closer ,while I was trying to just calmly walk by, and said. "I think they want to play". I said Nope, she doesn't want to play.. she kept coming and now both dogs are going nuts and now I am pulling Greta away. Finally told her to step back they don't want to play...She finally stopped then asked, what kind of dog is it, like nothing happened?
This still baffles me.

Wow, I feel better about some of the comments I've received over the years now.
Let's see, Rain, my blue merle/white Border Collie is a hyena (I guess a miniature one as she's only 34 pounds). My Blk/tan Kelpie is a rat terrier, my red/tan Kelpie is a Doberman (and why didn't you dock her tail?), 'Is that a K9?' Umm, I guess since he certainly isn't a feline. Considering the neighborhood and the time of night I was walking him, I just said yes, and could you please back away, he's working (on finding the perfect place to potty...lol)Oh, and a police officer actually asked if my tri-colored double coated, brush-tailed Border Collie/Kelpie mix was a pit bull. *sigh* and they gave him a gun?
Oh, 'You got his collar on inside out' Huh? It's a prong collar, not a spike collar. Just think, these people are reproducing, too.

I have 3 dogs. I get "are they all yours"...yes. "are you a dogwalker?".....no. "you got a handful"......says you whos poodle is pulling a fullgrown man all over and trying to attack my dogs who are sitting obediently.
I have a cane corso. I get "that dogs huge wow, what kind of dog is he?" A cane corso. "a king corso?". A cane corso, its a type of mastiff. "A mastiff, oh ya my brother has one of those, shes small, his is way bigger." sigh.....
Note to all people with children, dogs bite. Pls do not encourage your children to run up to my dogs screaming. Thank you.

I have a bi color GSD and have been asked often what kind of mix she is "Black lab and ?" Some really don't believe she is a GSD because they have never seen a black one and the brown on her legs really thows them off. I'm actually more surprised now when someone actually asks if she is a German Shepherd.

We used to get hyena a lot with my childhood terrier (purebred welsh terrier) though in their defense my father used to "groom and clip" her at home...which meant her legs would be shaved but he'd leave all of the hair on her shoulders and trim her face, so she looked like she had a hyena hunch, not to mention he went gray really early....at the same time...16lb hyena? really?
On a related note I had an old wildlife rescuer friend as me if I wanted to foster a 6 week old hyena pup that needed hand/bottle feeding for two months a while back...had to refuse (I wanted to keep my limbs) but how cool would that have been?
and my "idiot" contribution to this thread today. When a dog is playing frisbee with his owner and you throw your frisbee when I throw my frisbee you need to accept my dog may loose track of which one is his. If you do not want my dog to catch your frisbee perhaps you should use of of the other 4 fields this complex offers or perhaps throw in a different direction. I can call my dog off chasing your frisbee but when you throw it DIRECTLY over mine you really can't complain when he catches it (he actually caught them both which was really cool). I'd like to thank this guy's girlfriend who informed him he was an idiot and offered a couple of throws with Ryuk's own frisbee so she could watch him catch them.....but really? That's like putting your steak in the dog bowl and complaining when they dog thinks it's his dinner.
