I'm violently opposed, for a multitude of reasons, not all of which have to do with ingesting them.
So, how about disease resistant hybrid seed?
Same thing to me.
hybrids are often naturally occurring, and shouldn't be a concern, but frankly I'd like to see more data and research on DNA modified foods. They've made glow in the dark mice for chris sake, the potential for dangerous mutations and Chimeras hasn't been satisfactorily researched for me to start chowing down on some of it.
Dennis, well, that is the question, now isn't it.
Are the hybrids we're talking about here the naturally occurring variety, or the "created in Monsanto's lab and patented", invades neighboring fields and wipes out those crops, variety.
We *are* the research on GMOs.
Virtually everyone on this board has probably eaten some variety of GMO this week... without knowing it.
Because your government doesn't feel you have the right to know.

... What do you think of DNA altered crops?
I'm violently opposed, for a multitude of reasons, not all of which have to do with ingesting them.
I find it abhorrent that the FDA and USDA have seen fit not to require labeling on genetically modified plants and animals entering our food chain. ...
I strongly agree. I like to think it's not a knee-jerk reaction, because I've been following material on this frightening (to me) topic since The Lancet's late-1990s report on GM potato research.
What my untrained mind has taken away from dozens and dozens of papers on GM foodstuffs is that we know frighteningly little about DNA. Something over 90% of human DNA, for example, is still a mystery as to function, effect, etc.
And when we release products of genetic engineering into the environment, that's it. It's not possible to recall or corral them.
There are dozens of health and environmental dangers, but the biotech giants already have millions of acres under GM crops and huge global plans for just about every important crop we have.
