Little goats take no special care unless you are milking them, them must be milked 2 x day when not nursing kids, also, or 1 x a day if kids. If you don;t breed the females, then no special care, just feed, water and clean up after the little rabbit doos. The pygmies are smaller than the nigerians and we don't milk them, so again just feed 2x day. Goats are so easy to care for! and fun
After they kids are weaned, how long do the females continue to produce milk requiring 2x daily milking? What do you use their milk for? Thanks!

The pygmies are my favorite, and I find they are very easy keepers. One of my nigerians could fly over any fencing structure we set up, but only if he saw a person to follow or give him food.
Barbara,
Goats should lactate for about 10 months after kidding.....you would wean a dairy kid at two months....meat kid at 5.
YOu give them 2 months "dry" at the end of the lactation to prepare for the coming kid.
You can drop a dairy goat to OAD milking if she is not producing much milk.
The milk is used for drinking, cheese, and making soap.
I build and sell milking machines for cows and goats....soooo if anyone wants one let me know.....lol
Or has questions about udder health.....
We also ran a commercial meat herd for quite a while and the kids and I processed the meat for buyers..
Pygmy goats were the tastiest.
Hugs!!!!
The great think about Pigmys is that they do not need to be milked. I would never bother eating them but find our cows and pigs to be tastier. We send them out to a local guy for butchering. My daughter raises rabbits and we have sent some of those for meat.
