To my knowledge, there's no way to predict that.

I took off today, and it rained, so Sadie and I were stuck inside.
We worked on duration in the "look" an holding the IB dowel. We also worked "au pied", front finishes, entering the "fuss", and out-of-motion exercises. We did some sit/down/stand position changes from 10ft.
It did quit raining and dry out after lunch, so I staked her out in the front yard. She loves this, as she is stuck in the fenced backyard every day when I go to work. When the mailman came, we worked the long down and "look" under the level 10 distraction. I even went back inside and she held her down.

I was thinking about that, but am leery of leaving him with a command that says, in his mind, bite this thing, that would not be a bite command to any reasonable third party. How many months would that take to extinct out?
Months? Correct him for it and end it in one day. He can't keep biting you Kristin.

Harley worked on weaves 8 poles (that was all I could do at home) I tryed to walk/run ahead of him just a bit but he seem confused at first. He is best when I stand realy far back. So I got to work on behind close to him or ahead.
Also worked on long down while Dexter was being worked.
Dexter was pretty good on the 2x2. I got the 2 sets much closer but not yet near a weave but getting there. He did not miss one run and was very happy. He was able to enter at harder angles with out help. I have to be careful at the reward line to set him up. If the reward is off to the side he trend to go in that direction on the next run.

Hi, been ill so haven't posted. TOday we worked on these things:
Bindi-clicker training her to lick her lips on command. Right now I am observing her and click when she links. Soon we will name the behavior. Got any ideas of what I could name the behavior?
We also worked on turns and heeling. And rewarding her for allowing her head to be touched from the people she knows at Petsmart. (Doing this because one day in Rally the judge will touch her head and back.)
Cody went to the vet and did very well, even remained pretty calm as two dogs barked and barked at him. Did well, remembered his training to go to the scale and get on it and wait. went right into the back room and got his shot and was very friendly with everyone. Vet is a scary place for Cody.
Terra- tonight we worked on agility equipment. We walked on the wobble board, did some low jumps. This morning we worked on heeling. She is very easily distracted. Any tiny piece of paper, of a butterfly, or even a bird and she is staring at it and forgets everything she knows we do when we heel. Then we pops out o fit and prances along! She was the only dog at dog training tonight , was very friendly and loved being petted by everyone!
Bindi did not do as well at rally O training this monday. I was gone to a Catherine Zinsky seminar in Canoga Park so I was gone all weekend. When I got home and the next day took Bindi to rally training, she acted like she didn't even know what do to when I told her to get on her "mat"! She didn't do as well as she normally does. So she had an off day. But she is a great little girl anyway.
So that is it for me and my pups for today.
How is everyone else doing? sharon and her pups Bindi, Cody, Terra

The lip-licking .... maybe "yum"? (Or "smack"?)
I don't think I've ever trained that!
PS
It sounds like you're working hard, Sharon.

Thanks connie, that is the word that came to my mind as well. Just trying to keep Bindi mentally stimulated and doing something else besides rally. I am taking a clicker training course right now online.. It is pretty fun!
Tues took Terra to dog school, besides the trainer, I was the only one who showed up. So, we did some agility equipment with our dogs. Terra was new to that and so I had her try some of the things out, of course I modified them so she could begin small. She did fine. Spring has sprung in her little mind and she is so very hyper when I train her. She gets so excited she is beside herself.
We worked on "mark" indoors, and outside engagement and heeling.
Worked with Bindi on turns, heeling, recall. She is very fast in her recall at home. But at the training center she is slow as a turtle. So we want to change that.
Cody- we worked on heel, recall (he loves to run so is always fast in his recall) go touch-he runs to a big ball and punches it with his nose, reviewed some other things like going to his mat, place -where he goes around me and lays between my feet- spin, speak, touch, wait. He is doing well in the pick it up area. Now when I drop laundry and say I need help, he comes running to the rescue and picks up the sock or whatever I drop. Each morning, whether told to or not, he brings me all the dog dishes. If I leave a cupboard open he closes it. He is a real character. Took him to the vet, and even though two dogs were barking away at him, he was good. He did all his behaviors I asked of him. When the tech came and took him back to get his b12 shot, he ran over to the scale and sat on it and then pushed his way into the back room! He is doing so much better with at the vets. Now if I could just get him to not hate the Vet! He is afraid of men and doesn't want the vet to do anything to him. There is a woman vet there too, so we are going to try her.
Today, I am taking bindi's lip licking from me sitting on the couch to me standing, and then taking bindi into the kitchen instead of the living room. we will see how that works.
Enjoying reading about all the work everyone is doing with their dogs.

Dear Duane: that sounds like Sadie did very well! I remember when I first started training and distractions were horrible to me, now it is great to know I can use them in my training as my dogs progress. Isn't that a relief, we can use those level 10 distractions to strengthen our dogs behaviors!
Sounds like you are really moving along nicely in your training.

Getting frustrated with the lack of leash laws in my county right now Duke is having great fun on the walks when the intact female midway through the loop comes to romp with him.
Once she's right there, the only thing that would be rewarding enough to distract him would be a live chicken. Flapping under his nose. Maybe.
Going to start taking a different section of the loop starting tomorrow to start to minimize our exposure to her (and the other 3 dogs at that location) and see if we can start building some focus with that distraction at a distance.

Between last night at the club and this evening, I got in at least four hours of helper work, helping TD prep two dogs for some movie work. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how much time and work go into making a shoot that may only last a few seconds in an edited scene.
We also got some quality agitation work in with Sadie. Getting a bark is no longer an issue, but she does appear to have a very low defensive threshhold. She really makes the decoy work to keep her focused on the prey, and I still have a lot of homework to do to promote more prey drive.
