At this point as they say: if it ain't broke...Don't fix it. I know you are going to stay at what is working for him for now & the next couple of months. The worse that can happen is you stay with what is working for good. He is getting some of a better food. So.long as he eventually gains weight & is healthy...it's a win.
I was speaking to down the road to try to add some foods with different protein sources....& then rotate them.
We continue to have poop issues off and on and it bothered me enough that I finally had a blood test done on him to check for allergies/sensitivies. I almost wish I hadn't.
The report shows he is allergic to 5 different kinds of grasses, 4 different kinds of weeds, including ragweed, 3 different kinds of trees, 7 different kinds of fungi/mold, and highly allergic to dust mites.
Food allergies include wheat, sorghum, brewers yeast, kelp, tomato, rabbit and duck. He is borderline allergic to beef, chicken, turkey, pork, venison, eggs, and milk.
On my vet's reccomendation, we are switching him to a fish/potato limited ingredient food for a 6 weeks trial which is starting today. The food we will be using is Iam's Veterinary Formula Skin and Coat Plus at $97 for a 30 lb bag. Yikes!
I'm going to do some research and try to find something comparable that hopefully will be a little more cost efficient.
I feel bad for my guy that I didn't go the allergy testing earlier but nice to know why he was having such issues with his poop.
