That's a healthy attitude, David!
Avoiding politics is the way to go for most people, but eventually, if someone adversely affects an organization, something needs to be done ( I'm not talking about PSA or Mark Rowe here, as I have had no contact with either. But the Paul Maloy scandal in SchH USA went on *far* too long, and hurt both the organization and the sport of SchH in general )
CKC jokes are like AKC jokes - here, you're pretty safe! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
As I stated I am very new to this sport. I now see where Mark Rowe is involved with PSA. It is on the PSA website. The articles that you mentioned and the website referenced in those articles have no mention of PSA just to be clear. Not having any personal knowledge of Mr. Rowe I will reserve my judgement. The people on the west coast that I have seen seem very professional and have some outstanding dogs.
Will: I agree with you about the rules regarding double posting. However, I must disagree in this case based on the fact that it was two different threads with statements made from two different people. How would it be possible to resolve both remarks with only one question? Now that you closed one of the threads that person can never respond.
I agree with many of your statements.....Ed is right when he says Sport is Sport. However there is a new organization that is called Service Dogs of America that is starting this fall. It has the high level obidience of shutzund and the reality based PP requriments. They have a family ob title, alert dog title, Service Dog 1, 2 , 3 and Police dog 1, 2. It is tremendously well organized and I have attended several national demos. HERE IS THE KICKER!!!!!!!! The UKC has formed a partnership with them and will recognize all the titles on there pedigress......
I think you will find this to be a super reality based program that will not replace, but suppliment sports you a currently supporting. It will provide the first recognized US Pedigree titles and should define Protection sport for Breeding purposses.
Well, clicking on the service dog link provided here leads you to a weird file cluster- not usable. Previously when the link was working, it described a watered down SchH requirement that we have discussed in the forum before - not much interest was generated, to tell the truth.
And I've watched the SDOA website for seven or eight months now, and there has been zero change or progress on it.
Vinnie,
if you care to provide some links that work, especially to the National Demo's, I'd be interested in looking at it further. I myself haven't seen or heard of any of the National Demo's, and I'm wondering how I missed those.
They have seemed to have a difficult time getting the web site up.....some contract with a webmaster not doing his job. It was live for two days and now it is a strange file. Check back with it.
The UKC Premier is in Michigan next month I believe and a demo is being held there. What I meant by National demos is that they are being held at various events around the country to familirize people with it. It is not waterdowned Schutzund at all. The OB is exact, no tracking, and the proctiection on the SD 1 is...
Alert on command
Handler attack with 360 guard (no bite)
frontal attack from blind .. bite..drive..out
A friendly greeting was being discussed at the end .... dont know if it made the final cut.
http://www.realityk9.com Has a site that has been posting information in reference to UKC updates.
Email Ben Patrick and the will send you a Video.
The guys name who is heading it up is Jack Rayle from Athens TN. It is also the spot where the first event is to be held.
I have talked to many PSA and Schutzund people, and have yet to see someone who has seen a demo or a video that did not think it had a place in the working dog world....esspecially because of the agreement with the UKC.
