In Louisiana Nutria are as common as ants. Yes they are edible, I prefer them BBQ'ed. Not my favorite dish but better then Racoon. They are not native to the United States.
When I was going to High School(yes they had electricity)I had family that trapped Nutria and sold the hids and meat. Meat was then used solely for pet food.
Nutrias are vegetarians, they are a major cause of Coastal Errosion.
Sorry for getting off topic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Is there any thing you Cajuns DON'T eat? I guess you guys put it in a stew or as they say, Gumbo.
I'd have to get pretty hungry to eat one of those things, or a possum, I've heard that from people a time or two. No thanks! Better them than me is my motto . . .
I've eaten most wild game but NO POSSUM! The expression "grinin like a possum eatin s#!+" has it's origins in old fashioned out houses. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
