Here's a quote:
"Spokeswoman Jessica Chittenden would not identify the chemical or its source beyond saying it was a rodent poison."
God damn...As if it isn't bad enough that there is poison in the food and it's taken this long to identify it, NOW they won't identify the chemical???!!!!
Cats and dogs CAN survive rat poisoning provided vets know what the chemical is and can start treatment immediately. This is outrageous.

I agree, this is absoltutely outrageous......

And they released the information on Friday...AGAIN! So many vets were completely blindsided last Monday morning...getting swamped with calls from frantic owners and they've been running to keep up all week with NO solid information...nothing to go on. How many vets, in the middle of a busy Friday, are going to get this crucial information today?
I'm no scientist but just how long DOES it take to identify rat poison in pet food?
This just breaks my heart.

I heard it was from cheap wheat from China on the way home today on the radio. I'm just shaking my head over it.
They have safeguards in place for human food but not for animal food. It is disgusting how this has played out and happened in the first place.

I heard on the news last night that here in the US the FDA allows the pet-food industry to SELF REGULATE??!!
Self regulation is all about dollars and cents nothing more. Keep the prying eyes of officials away there will be someone who will try to buck the system. Since they are self regulated the government can't be held accountable so they are off the hook.
There is good companies that provide good animal food but like in any self regulated industry 'someone' can cut all sorts of corners to be more profitable. Hopefully someone will be held accountable and made to pay.

This whole thing is just so sickening.........One of my friends came over last night, she has 2 beautiful Bengal cats and feeds Iams. I told her to take it right back and get her money back.......she and I are looking at how to balance raw food for cats now. She said she'll try it if I get it in writing/menu form for her. What pisses me off the most is that it is taking something like this to get me off my butt to feed all 3 of my cats properly.......the dogs have been on raw for years but 2 of the cats are so fussy I gave up trying to feed them raw too. Luckily everyone seems fine and I started to switch them a couple weeks ago but it shook me up to realize how my laziness could be fatal to creatures I love so much. No more!!!

So are they still saying this is limited to the wet/canned food? I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't use the same wheat in the dry food.
Is is possible that becuase it's processed differently symptoms from the dry are taking longer to show up.
Reason I ask is my parents and mother-in-law still feed the dry versions of 2 foods on the list and think they are fine since nothing has been said about dry yet.

...I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't use the same wheat in the dry food...
For one, I'm very glad they tracked down the source of death.
But...
Is it wrong of me to be hoping that it WAS just BAD (as in spoiled,
rotten, etc.) wheat? Reason being is that at least there'd be a greater
argument in the minds of the general public against kibble. I mean, I'd
rather hear people say that they'd not trust kibble anymore because it's
MAIN ingredient could be bad - and that from ANY source of wheat.
Instead, I can hear all the anti-RAW professionals saying that kibble is
still the best to feed pets, and that this is just an isolated incident.
Poison in wheat? Just change suppliers!
Just my 2 cents...
God Bless,
Martin

I think it is possible, but where are we going to get honest answers from right now? That is what is frustrating me.......I would switch to a kibble like Innova, it is more money, but it is great food, unless they want to go raw.....Just my opinion
