Quote Doug Alcorn:
"I hate to keep throwing fuel to the fire (sooner or later someone will lock this thread), but I find this pretty ironic. CM's book Be The Pack Leader has a whole chapter or two on this same kind of stuff." end
So what?
I don't follow C. Milan myself, and for all I know he may be the second coming.
So you're saying K. Behan is a plagiarizer?
I just want to know what you're trying to say.
Randy
Okay guys,
I just realized an oversight on my part enre to K. Behan.
I should have included a link for the piece I took the quotes from.
I'll leave it to you to decide if I've misrepresented his views.
Here is the full article. http://www.naturaldogtraining.com/tell.html
All I'm saying is the original article was calling out CM for misunderstanding dogs; for acting like a predator instead of the (as they say) fictitious pack leader. The ironic part to me is the quotes you gave from K. Behan sound very much like CM in his book Be The Pack Leader. I'm not trying to say Behan plagiarized CM. I'm not trying to say CM is the Bee's Knees or not. I just find it ironic that LCK is setting CM up as the bad guy when his mentor, K. Behan, sounds a lot like CM in his touchy-feely, emotional, energy talk.
I'll definitely come out and say I don't know nearly as much about dogs as I thought I did just a few short years ago. I don't even know as much about dogs as I thought I did a year ago. I think at this point I know how much I don't know about dogs and it can only go up from here!
I've enjoyed CM's show, "The Dog Whisperer", for what it is: entertainment. I appreciate him making me and others aware of the pack status issues that many are unfortunately ignorant of. I also value the work Ed has done to write and produce videos educating much further than what CM does. I think of CM as raising awareness and Ed as actually educating.
I really enjoy the discussions here on the forum. I really enjoy learning from you guys' judgement in specific scenarios (versus much of the writing that's in the abstract). I'm an analytical guy and it helps me to talk through things with back and forth. It also helps me to try and summarize what I've learned and repeat it back for confirmation. I'm not trying to argue with anyone, but I get the sense that others may think so.
I also get the sense that folks are ready to see this thread die and I'm willing to let it do so. I've heard and read that much of this material has been gone over before. I think the new piece to this discussion was how LCK fits in with the previous discussions.

DOUG SAID: I think the new piece to this discussion was how LCK fits in with the previous discussions.
Anyone have any LCK stuff to add?
As many have noted, Cesar Millan has been discussed ad infinitum here, since the day Ed and Cindy said they Tivo'd every episode. Type in MILLAN or WHISPERER at search (after you expand it to 3 years or so) for thread after thread after thread. I like CM very much, and have since his good old tiny-seminar everyone-bring-your-dog days, and I think he deserves every drop of fame he has. I think he is part dog.
But he's not really the topic. The brilliant and groundbreaking LCK is.
So .... has anyone read the LCK article and adopted it overnight and now wants to write about it (signed "Papa Wolf")?
While I agree that dogs can pick up on nuances of human behavior, saying they model us is a stretch.
I've heard in the past that one reasons dogs dig in gardens is because they see their humans doing it... not sure I buy it, but I'm not sure I'd discount it either. I think it's possible they could pick up behavior by watching us.
If Ginger is modeling me, she needs WAY more nap time to do it effectively, though.
There are three constants in life: Death, taxes and the love of a dog.
Don't get all defensive Doug,
I only wanted clarification of your thoughts. The irony you were trying to convey was lost on me in your first post this morning.
The reason I brought K. Behan into the ring is he was cited as a mentor by the now semi famous (or is it infamous) LCK. The same reason both Milan and Dr. Mech have been mentioned, because LCK has seen fit to include them in his mindless musings about dogs.
I'll let it go, I think it's 'probably' safe to let LCK wander the streets unsupervised.
So live and let live I always say.
