This one is just funny. At the Canadian border.
Mountie: Are you an American citizen?
 Me: Yes
Mountie: What about that one, looks German to me. (pointing at my shepherd).
Goes to show they can have a sense of humor.

We were coming back into the U.S. from Niagara Falls. The Mountie asked where we were coming from. Our driver said, "Canada."

When people ask about Buster's breed, I say either he's a Jack Russell Wanna Be, or a poor excuse for a Jack Russell. A lot of people don't realize that JRTs come in different sizes (long legged vs short legged) and hair types (short hair vs wire hair). One thing is for sure, he's all terrier temperament.

At the first session of a new OB class someone always asks me what type of dog, I reply a Rottweiler and they say oh, ok. Then casually pack up and move to the other side of the room. By mid session, they have warmed up to us. It used to make me feel bad for my dog(s), now I just laugh and watch.

All I have to say is if I got a dollar for every time someone upon seeing Frost's tail remarked, "Look a raccoon tail!" I'd be a rich woman :-)

Walking my 4 dogs, all on leads, under my control, walking to heel past a school crossing patrol, children pushing and shoving each other being 'supervised' by the man who asks me loudly if I can control my dogs??!! and that old chestnut yesterday, again, walking my 2 Boerboels and one of the English Pointers, still walking to heel, under my control, the village idiot shouts across the road, "you don't need to walk them, they are walking you, har! har!"
Yawn.

I'm chuckling with understanding at those of you with rare breeds. I've got a Leonberger.

A friend of mine was laughing when a lady with her said she bet I wouldn't know what breed her dog was....it was a Leonberger.
I was always amazed how many people thought Bullmastiffs meant they were Pitt X mastiff mixes. Or when you said a Bullmastiff and they said...like Turner and Hooch! Exactly, 'cept a different continent. But closer than Pitt. My insurance agent thought they must be on their 'will not insure...bite list'. They weren't.

As the local AC guy asked me once when he asked me to come help ID a dog. He says, "So do you think it is a mix or just a really poor example of a Bullmastiff?" We decided probably a mix since it had some Neo in there we thought and the "owner" didn't know. The owner who turned it in for attacking him (dogs will do that when you beat them!).

				"Is that a timberwolf?"
"Is that a Collie?"

"I can't believe you cropped that dogs ears. That's so cruel"

I've had the cropped ears comment from a good friend, but in her defense, she knows nothing about dogs at all.
What I rank as stupid is the time I took Cassie to an agility trial. She was young and I wanted to watch the show as well as work on some focus stuff with her. Someone who should have known better came up and asked me what kind of dog she was. Ahem, GSD I answered.
Now for the stupid part. The guy stood there and proceeded to tell me how she couldn't possibly be a GSD because she had long hair. Wish I'd had had a tape recorder, I got this long lecture, none of it made much sense to me........I was to flabbergasted to follow.

The word "Malinois" will get the following responses:
Blank stare
"Mal-a-what?"
"Isn't that some kind of cookie?" (Actually heard that one twice if you can believe it.)

I had Caterina (Malinois) and Shyner (Lab) out together once. A lady asked me why we didn't "make the black one's ears stick up too." I responded with a blank stare of my own...
