FWIW I don't think you need to be "oh-so-gentle" with new people. I was stupid to buy my dog from a crummy place, everyone jumped on me, and YOU WERE CORRECT right down the line on everything, I've learned a ton, I enjoy the forum everyday, not sure the truth needs to be sugar-coated.
Being "correct right down the line on everything" is better if the O.P. doesn't stomp away mad after Post 2.
You stuck around, but that is not at all unanimous.

You were polite in your criticisms, and you took time to write something like, "You are wrong about this, but you might have a point about that"--- I think that's the trouble, when everything someone writes is attacked, then they vanish.

That's 'cause you did have good points. Sometimes it's hard, when the O.P. mainly generates and

I think that can happen. And sometimes, that doesn't work out well for the dogs.

I think it gets hard when you have someone new posting, you answer all their questions, and they get great advice, no snarkiness, no picking on them and you think you got through to them......
then next week they post back about what they've done, and they didn't follow the advice at all!!!! and did the complete opposite and are now wondering what went wrong.
Im not sure how long i've been here now....5 or 6 years i think...and i've never ever gotten bad advice or felt talked down to.
oh wait...I forgot about Scott G....he talked down to me all the time
*sigh* i wish i had his ninja skills though!

It's not what you say, but how you say it... I dont' plan on sitting on my opinions in fear of hurting someone's feelings, but if there is a way to say it to keep the bridges open and that person hanging around to learn more - as both you and I are doing - that would be my goal.
Trust me... I'll blow it big time occassionally.

LOL! THAT guy had talking down - down to a science, but we probably shouldn't go back there. (It IS always a bit fun, however...)
