Mmm, you may be right, Paris Hilton is SO classy! and that Lindsay Lohan, top drawer indeed, not to mention such high brow intellectuals as Tom Cruise and Hulk Hogan, god I envy their lineage, breeding and historical importance, the contribution they have made to the world in indeed awe inspiring,
you are very lucky to have such a rich and diverse heritage among your 'royalty'!
As much as our Monarchy is flawed, and odd at times in their lack of understanding of what happens in the real world, stuck on a desert island with a choice of reading material that is either autobiographies of the celebrities of short shelf life and no real relevance, or the vast history of the British Monarchy, I know which one would be used to light the fire with!

The Real George Washington by Jay Perry is a great read Tracey... I think you'd save that one from the fire. (The last thing the man wanted was to be treated like royalty).
Please add Charlie Sheen to your list of those whose autobiographies should be used to light the fire... better yet, to stock the outhouse.

Barabara,
Free market and progressive.
While the two terms are not necessarily mutually exclusive, in my mind they're short hand for two opposing interests.
In one of your posts you say you believe in the free market.
Quote: "I absolutely believe in the free market and sure wish we could get back there." end quote
Then you say in a later post,
Quote: "I was referring to the beginning of the progressive movement in the early 1900's, and yes, I realize it is alive and well today. JMHO" end quote
I'm confused.

I personally believe the free market system, when allowed to function without interference by the government, provides the most freedom for the individual and provides the most opportunity for anyone who is willing to work, to improve their lot in life. We are not following free market principals.
I also believe the progressive movement is "alive and well" and is having a significant influence on both political parties ie: bailouts/prop-ups/stimulus, etc...
Hope that helps.

Yeah, thanks for clearing up what you mean.
You mean you want to go back to the days before the antitrust laws, back to the good old days when people could be shot down for banding together for a better wage or to demand (heaven forbid!) safer working conditions, back to the prestine years when the titans didn't have to look over their shoulders before tossing some poison or another into your drinking water (they were such good stewarts).
Are those the days you long for?
Sorry though you still have me confused with how you use the term progessive.
You think progressives had something to do with some bailout or propping up of something?

I know what you mean, Randy.
A lot of people confuse the propping up of industry to be a purely liberal or progressive thing, when its really not. All but the most hardcore Libertarians have been involved with it.
All I have to say is with the state of the progressive movement these days, I'm glad I didn't throw all my money and time into the Labor Studies course I was interested in. At the rate we are going, there won't be any unions left.

Randy, I listened to the 1.5 hr. video you linked the other day. Twice. I took notes as you suggested. You said to keep an open mind and listen till the end. I did.
You obviously can't. The only way you can approach a discussion with me is to try and make me sound like a moron. You don't want to really know what I believe and have an honest discussion, you just want to set me up so you can knock me down and try to make me look foolish.
I'm not going to play.
I've found it impossible to have a rational discussion with anyone who has the mind set that it is either ALL or NOTHING and no grey in between. If you think that everything the unions are doing today is as beneficial as when they were first organized, you are sorely mistaken. However, you are as entitled to your beliefs as I am to mine, the main difference is, I was willing to listen and discuss it, not try to make you look like an idiot.
