I think Cheryl recapped it perfectly: It opens very easily. The video shows how easily the two kinds of quick-release collars open. LB stopped selling them because of that problem.
QUOTE: "After talking her for a walk with the prong collar and seeing how easy it can fail and come apart convinced me to not use them."
And the video demonstrates the ease with which they open accidentally.
Note the "clothespin" style quick-release snap on this collar--which I completely agree is too easily unsnapped and I would not use this collar at all--certainly not without a back-up collar in place.
The other one (Kelly's link) has a quite secure metal snap buckle (or so it has been in my experience using this collar on my dogs). No collar is 100% safe, but there's a world of difference between these two styles. JMO.
I think the takeaway is that with any prong collar, you must use a backup, whether it's a dominant dog collar or a well-built coupler (not plastic) that goes from the prong to the dog's flat collar...
(I will say I'm sorry to see the quick-release ones not available. I've used the Sprenger one for 3 years and never had an issue, but I typically don't give strong corrections, either. I can see why it's an accident waiting to happen...)
Is the type I use currently, but mine also has a sliding nylon 'live ring'. It's kinda weird, and I can't find a link for it currently, but I REALLY like the buckle, as it locks.
