anyhoo my dogs never seem to sleep in one spot, I thought they were supposed to be territorial like that???
they rotate from inside to outside and rotate inside spots and then rotate spots outside all night.
and what's up with this, I have bought every type of expensive ortho, eco, hypo, enviro, sweet dreamo dog bed on the market, they usually sleep next to them on a hard concrete bare floor winter or summer or sleep out in the dirt????
I think Peter's point is that, given the opportunity to choose, a dog may not choose the same "bed" for himself that his human would choose. Also, I think I sense that the dogs aren't as fixated on where they sleep as the humans are. My dog, who has freedom to choose within a certain area, behaves much the same.
It seems that the reasons we give for choosing where a dog sleeps differ from the criteria that the dog considers.
"It seems that the reasons we give for choosing where a dog sleeps differ from the criteria that the dog considers."
That seems correct to me.
IMHO, most dogs naturally want to choose either their idea of the BEST bed, or conversely, their perception of which bed will get them in the LEAST amount of trouble -- When allowed to decide sleeping accommodations for themselves, higher-ranking dogs will simply TAKE what they want (and defend it, if necessary) while lower-ranking dogs will go find someplace "out of the way" and make do with that instead ... Personally, I prefer not to live in a home where any dog "rules the roost" but maybe that's just me
