The breeder said that all of his littermates are fine. I tried to call the vet back and ask about the blood test results, but he was out of the office, so I will get the results tonight.
Do you guys think that this could just be stress related? The pup was shipped from germany to colorado, 4-5 days later shipped to me. (Pensacola, FL very different climate.) Then I gave him 2 baths. (I know I shouldn't of, but I didn't know, and he was real dirty from being in an outside kennel in colorado. Then 5 days passed, and he spent the weekend at that one vet. Then when I brought him home he had diarreah and vomiting, and looked like he just wanted to go in my girlfriends room. Then we took him to the other hospital where he is now.
He is by himself in this little room that smells horrid, locked in a cage by himself. He looked so sad when I was leaving yesterday, he kept looking at me through the window on the door when I was leaving.
I love my pup and I just want him to get better.
well, matthew, this pup has been through a lot, and has had ample opportunities to pick up who-knows-what. stress can weaken the immune system and allow bacteria and viruses to get the upper hand, so sure, stress could play a role. he could have picked up parvo before you ever gave him the shot. or it could be related to the vaccine. or he could have eaten something and have a blockage.
we can't diagnose him over the internet. i hope you'll find a good vet referral in your area.
btw, there was nothing wrong with you giving him a bath, so don't blame yourself for that.
since stuart couldn't refer you, does anyone here know of a good veterinary school or teaching hospital near pensacola? is there a university with a good veterinary program that matthew could call and get a consultation with a specialist?
matthew, maybe it is time to start calling local breed clubs for vet referrals. i myself went through several vets before i found my current vet. she was recommended by all the local breed clubs as the only decent vet in the county. call the people who do agility, who organize the fun matches, the local schutzhund club, etc. these are the people who know who the good vets are.
another red flag here: why does the room he is in smell "horrid" ? horrid how? is it not clean at the vet's?

Listen bro, this has nothing to do with stress and how many baths he got or didnt get. Vets dont recommend transfusions over a little bit of stress. Is this the only pup of the litter that was shipped to the states or are they all here?
I hope the breeder is picking up the tab here. I'm sure the bill is getting rather hefty. I lost a puppy do to anti freeze years ago and when i first took the pup tot eh vet they told me that I shouldnt have let my pup get into alcohol and that my pup was drunk. I knew this not to be the case and when the symptoms got worse I went to a different vet and found out what the real problem was...unfortunately it was too late.
I hope for the best for you and the pup and Im sure we are all very curious at this point to find out what the cause of this was.
Good luck

Maybe stress contributed to a weakened immune system, but he has a low white cell count and a fever.
IMO, Alice's post is good advice. Why does the room smell "horrid"? Some poop/vomit odod will linger, of course, but what is "horrid"? Unclean?
I think all the suggestions in Alice's post are good. Also, the bath -- IMo had nothing to do with any of this.

Hey Matt,
One more thing...instead of looking in the phone book for a vet and going to one that has shopped set up on the ave. down town it might be a good idea to find a vet that works on the farm animals in your area ( if you live in such an area). I think the rural farm docs are better than the average "down on the corner " vets.

Went to the vet this evening and the pup was more alert. I even got him to eat some of his food out of my hand! I think he would of eaten more, but they told me not to give him too much. It's been 3 hrs and he hasn't vomited it back up yet. So hopefully he is getting better.

OH, what good news!!!! And maybe if you brought in something VERY digestable next time, say a few pieces of poached white chicken meat....just a bite..they are right about just a little. (They are supporting him nutritionally, I'm sure, with the IVs.) This is SUCH good news!

I checked in tonight to see how your puppy was doing. It's good to read that he ate a little. All the best to you and your puppy.

I can't wait to hear the GOOD NEWS tomorrow!
Well, since it's 12:54 am on the West Coast right now, I guess
that'd be later on today - not tomorrow <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
God Bless,
Martin
