Alyssa, my female's weight runs between 60-63 lbs. She is all muscle & one hard, fast little bitch! Size isn't everything it's cracked up to be. :-) She has taken many decoys by great surprize, & some down, on the longbite that underestimated her. She is like a rocket & hits very hard. Many dogs slow up just a bit before impact with the decoy, she doesn't.

Even my male is on the smaller size at 78lbs.

I personally don't like the huge 90+ lb GSDs. At least not for sport dogs. I really think that you loose some of the agility & quickness of reaction time with the larger dogs. It's just physics. Something that big just can't gather up all that mass & move it into action as quickly as a smaller more compact version. Not to mention the concussion on their bodies with all that weight with jumps etc when working them. It definately takes it toll on their joints. I know that there are people that have the big dogs that will disagree. Some of the huge dogs can look impressive when hitting the decoy, but there is more to sport then just slamming the decoy.

I've yet to understand the obsession with bigger and smaller dogs...


I took a super long walk with Ryuk today. First hour I had a guy stop to pet him, ask what he was. I told him most likely cattle dog/sheperd with something else. He says "to bad he's not gonna grown anymore coulda been a good cross"....um...I love my dog's 55lb size (he may fill about a bit more, he's not 2 yet). He's athletic, intelligent, and pretty portable and fits in my apartment....he's the perfect size!

Second hour I had a lady ask the same questions...her response "to bad he's so big, he'd be better if he was smaller. Smaller dogs are better pets, bet you can't bring him anywhere"....actually I bring him all sorts of places and he never gets in the way because *gasp* he's trained not to!!! I've never not been able to go to a place because of my dog's size...ever. We're even working on "purse" training (modified duffel bag) in case I need to transport him somewhere he can't walk without a crate....

Geezzeee Jamie, get over yourself....your dog is just too SMALL; I mean too BIG, damnit! He would really be a great dog if he was just the RIGHT SIZE !!!!

I don't get the size obsession in either direction either.

I don't do protection sports, but my 95 pound dog catches squirrels and birds with alarming frequency, and does some really cool aerial maneuvers to catch his 'flying squirrel'. I don't think speed and agility have a weight limit.

To add to the ever-growing list of stupid comments, a conversation in the elevator last week:

Random woman:
Oh, isn't he a sweet dog! So quiet and friendly...who's a good boy (in a baby voice, while my shameless, suck-up of a dog gives her his 'sweet' face and a happy stub) What kind of dog is he?

Me: Thanks. He's a Doberman.

Random woman: OMG...really! Let me out! I'm afraid of those!
