BTW, Natalya, Connie is yet to have her crown installed on 16th (decided to do it anyway before she got sick). She is so far the most expensive pet in our lives. Combined. All pets. Maybe she and Oscar shall date or something
Well, when Oscar had his root canal we opted not to get it crowned, because it would have doubled the cost of the whole procedure... and I thought THAT was painful... let's just say that the root canal is no longer the most expensive thing Oscar has put me through. Luckily, as you know (and I know other member's have made similar, and greater, sacrifices) - our dogs are worth every pretty penny.
Connie, thanks for the info on slippery elm - the vet described it's effects just the way you did, I was just wondering in what context people here, if anyone, has used it. It seemed like a relatively inexpensive and easily prepared supplement to Oscar's diet routine, and anything that may help prevent similar future crises would be excellent to start up. FWIW, Carafate is one of the meds Oscar is on now... it's the only one he hates to take, because I can't wrap a liquid in chicken. In fact, I think I've still got some of it in my hair from tonight's dose...
Did the vet recc the timing you should give it in relation to the other gastro meds?
No... and unlike what Ana said, I wasn't instructed to time the Carafate he's on now with eating either... oh well, whatever we're doing seems to be working just fine - he's always hungry as a horse, poops are pretty normal (given the circumstances), and I haven't seen any other signs of nausea. The only med we were told to time with food was the Metroclopramide, which is a type of antacid, and is taken 30 minutes before meals. I will ask about this tomorrow when I talk to them on the phone about the urinalysis results. Thanks for posting your experience with slippery elm - sounds like if it doesn't actually work, it's at least an effective placebo!
