"In the early 1980's I went through a phase (that many breeders in America and German do.) I thought I could re-invent the wheel by breeding a better looking working dog (as if there is really anything wrong with the look of a working dog with a big head, good bone and deep rich pigment.) This (I thought) could be accomplished by crossing the top working bloodlines with the top show bloodlines. Everyone that tries this finds out that this does not work. It produces mediocre to poor dogs. None of the dogs had enough drive to do good work and none were good enough looking to show."
Phaedra, Welcome to the board. Thanks! It should be loads of fun.. The puppies seemed really great with lots of drive.. But most people say that it is a big chance buying a cross... There are several websites about it. You might want to think about just looking at a working line.. That said I stand by my choice. I have meet both the sire/dam and both dogs where awesome.. I plan on doing tracking and obedience.. But I am still a little concerned about the "fight drive" in a cross bread. I just ordered Ed's puppy videos.. They are awesome just to let you know..
Thanks John. I have quite a few of Ed's videos, and have been watching them for years. I had a GSD rescue who just passed away. My life pretty much revolves around animals - dogs in particular - personally & professionally. I actually just posted an new topic in this forum with links to the parents of the pup I plan on getting... I'd like some opinions...
