I think it gets hard when you have someone new posting, you answer all their questions, and they get great advice, no snarkiness, no picking on them and you think you got through to them......
then next week they post back about what they've done, and they didn't follow the advice at all!!!! and did the complete opposite and are now wondering what went wrong.
If you don't snark on the first post, you done good. I think that is the critical post, the first one where someone brings up their problems.
If they don't listen at all, they might be dumbasses, and at that pooint when you know they aren't going to listen anyway, I guess there's no harm in telling them what you are thinking.
I've found some good advice here. Some I think, depends on how one asks.

I do understand people being tired from answering the same questions over and over again though as Will Rambeau has said. I don't know how to alleviate that, may be organize the site a little different, and again, not quite sure how, but I do get the point that people asking the same thing over and over again is tiring. When you have done the same basic thing for years it can become frustrating. One of the problems I think is that there are so many bad trainers out there and so many fallacies about training.... people are completely misinformed. We looked for good information about dog training for six year, went through five trainers, watched DVDs, read books, all with very little results until finally by accident I found this site... a lifesaver, really. If I had put the time I put into looking for help and getting the wrong kind of help into training the right way had I known how I would have been a professional trainer by now! Instead I am here asking basic questions.

Perhaps a FAQ section that the experienced people would not mind pointing out to those who asked FAQs.

Actually, I had written some instructions for useful things like how to use the search, etc. and made them "stickys", but they were all lost when the forum went to a new format.
That was a lot of work down the drain.

I don't think it's so much the questions....as it is when good advice is given, and it's not taken!
or when the posters don't hear what they want to hear, they get defensive and say this site is "clicky" and "hard on new members".
Michael_Wise is a good example...he's pretty new, all he had to do to be accepted was post pics of his mug on an afghan!
oh, and tell everyone he loves them....
he seems to throw that phrase around ALOT!!!
joking aside...everyone of us was new at one time or another...and took the advice on here and ran with it and learned something new and passed it on to friends, family and new people on here. There is a huge range of knowledge here from people that rescue dogs, deal with DA dogs, have extensive puppy knowledge, raw feeding etc etc. But getting your (not you persay...lol)panties in a bunch when someone gives you advice that doesn't mesh with what you were thinking, or is short & to the point isn't going to help.
again, im not saying this to you in particular, i just quoted your post!

Can each of us do a little and try to recreate this for you?

He might throw the phrase around alot to keep you other gal's appeased, but it is ME he is thinking about each and every time the words are uttered... Deep sigh. Don't hate me 'cause I'm drop dead gorgeous gals, it is a heavy burden.

When you think about it there are over 16,000 registered members. If everyone asks first-time-questions it's repeating the same thing 16,000 times. Everyone won't but I would think the majority will. When you think about it that way then the moderators should get an award for not quitting, really. Looking at the numbers I think there definitely should be a new member section. It's simply too much to do this on 1:1 basis. Maybe picking threads with solid information that address common new member problems would help? But that's again an awful lot of work considering there are over 282,000 posts....
