It was probably "Smack" a dehydrated food made in Manitoba:

Yes, that's what she said!

Thanks for all that info. Were you feeding your pup Orijen when you first got him/her?
Today's situation still remains the same. No gas overall actually, but pretty smelly poops. Fecal will be done on Wednesday.
As a side note from earlier - For anyone wondering, Acana is very similar to Orijen. They do have some foods with steel cut oats, and some grain free foods, but not as protein rich.

No, when I got her at three months old she was on Purina puppy chow! I switched to raw right away, knowing it might cause problems. For two weeks she was fine, then came the loose and smelly stools. My feeling is that there was a bit of detox of her system going on.
It cleared up and then I added the soaked Orijen for her evening meal, my reasoning being that we go boating and RV'ing a lot and need some flexibility for times when refrigeration is dodgy. There was a bit of a relapse on the poop front, but only for a few days.
Every time I add something new - even in the smallest increments - this seems to happen, so it doesn't worry me anymore.
BTW Mitzi is a 6 1/2 mo. old MinPin and is on the Orijen Puppy formula.

I actually am not back to work yet (yay!), I go back on Wednesday. A couple people from work have met him though... One fell instantly in love with him (she has a GSD) and the other thought he was cute, but "too loud"!

Hi Phaedra,
I just read through this whole thread...you've gotten lots of good advice.
I love Orijen, it's on the rotation of what I feed my own dogs. There has been a lot of discussion on one of our breed lists, however (I have Briards), about puppies having soft stools on the large breed puppy formulation.
I've never had the problem, but that's because we skip the "puppy" version. You may want to try transitioning to the adult version of the same food, as a starting point.
Just wanted to let you know that I've seen a great deal of buzz about soft stools and that particular formulation.

Wow, thank you for letting me know. I actually talked to a girl yesterday who had the same problem with the large breed puppy in particular, but not the normal puppy.
Maybe I will change him to the regular puppy, as it is very similar, but obviously something about it different enough to cause that problem.
Thanks again.

Hi Phaedra,
"Puppy" formula kibbles for a large breed dogs are not generally a great idea. There's not a long-time large breed dog breeder I know who feeds puppy formulations (Orijen's LG Puppy was one exception, as they attempted to mitigate the usual problems with puppy formulations...lower phosphorous compared with what is generally found in the higher-protein puppy kibbles).
I'd strongly recommend the adult version, if you are going to make the change.

Which Orijen adult formula do you feed? What have you heard about Acana LB pup? I know that it does have grain in it in the form of steel cut oats, but right now I am just looking for a food that agrees with him.

It's whatever is the teal blue bag. I think it's just the regular adult version. When feeding Acana, I use the orange bag (Prairie?). That one is grain-free. I've fed both the adult Orijen and the Acana Prairie to puppies with no problems.
