I'll return to the topic after I add that IMO, Barbara and Connie are always right. Period. End of my story.

LOL. Nahhh. I don't scare easily. I would have given up on Koenig numerous times by now if I did! (He bit me within the first 10 min I owned him. lol)
You two are always full of wonderful, well thought out, straightforward advice though, and I love you for it!

You talking about my thread?
yes, I was talking about your thread - sorry I didn't answer immediately, but went to schutzhund training and gone for 4 1/2 hours.
I am replying to this - where you edited your thread right after posting it: Edited by Michael_Wise (Today at 11:12 AM)
Edit Reason: I don't know what Lynne is talking about! It was RIGHT the whole time.

Lynne, I think I can safely say this is a misunderstanding on your part. I participated in the other thread, just to point out a spelling error on Michael's part, just by way of teasing him. If you look at the times of the first few posts, you will see that he edited his post to change the spelling of "theirselves" to "themselves," after being teased for his spelling by another poster. I'm sure that's what he was referring to being RIGHT about.
Sorry, Michael, I guess it was your place to respond to this, but you've already said you're outta here, and I felt the misunderstanding should be pointed out.
Just one other comment. I'm pretty much a noob here, too, and some of my posts have been, well, I guess you could say disagreed with. It can be tough here! But, still, I think the driving force behind this whole forum is the welfare of dogs, so I just try to have a thick skin and stick around to learn as much as I can.
Sorry for another off-topic post.

Goodness.........
ANYWAY........
We get this crap all the time with Eddie....we are mobbed wherever we go.
It is so totally annoying, I have developed a fairly effective method...
If it is an adult I see coming toward us with that look I say loudly "DO NOT PET THE DOG. HE IS WORKING" Before they get close enough to touch him.
They usually stop close to him and look at me. I then say "PLEASE TAKE 2 STEPS BACKWARD FROM THE DOG"
At this point they are so shocked by my authoritative official tone, that they either leave in a huff or back off and stay to chat.
I hate the stay to chat part..I answer what breed he is and then say excuse me I'm busy right now....they usually get all offended...It's shocking to me how people assume that I am there for their entertainment....
I have people interrupt me regularly in conversations to ask me what kind of dog he is.....it blows my mind...
Then they get mad because I don't drop what I'm doing to talk to them...
The ignore them technique is great..no eye contact or turn my back on them works sometimes...
Kids are a different matter...oddly most of the kids we come across are great...much better than the adults. They as to pet him and when I say, I'm sorry but no, they shrug and walk off.
The other kind are the brats that just try to pet him, but those are few and far between..for those I do like Dennis and tell them that they should not pet strange dogs ever.
I give that lecture to the parents too especially to the parents of the babies...sigh.
I'll shout it at them if they are far away..."Please come get your child right away, this is a working dog."
The worst is when people use me as an object lesson on how "To teach their child to act around a handicap"...like I'm a thing....

Olivia,
I've had somewhat the same problem with people wanting to see/pet JD. Same thing, very rare around here and everyone wants to know everything. JD is standoffish (yes, I raised him well, too) and won't go near anyone until told it is ok. When kids head towards him, especially if the parents are letting them run off, I announce very loudly "You need to stay back from my dog. Do not touch him". If that doesn't work I announce even louder to the parents "You need to get your child. They are not to touch the dog - he is working". Maybe they think I'm a witch - I don't really care. The safety and security of my dog is of the utmost importance. The only people allowed anywhere near my dog are the once with the intelligence to stop a decent distance away and ask about him.
I've also learned that speaking commands in german doesn't hurt...people seem a little more intimidated by that :-)

Brilliant! And it really does work!
When my brother lived in China he'd have pan handlers ask him for money. If he answered in English or broken Chinese, they'd keep pushing. So he switched to Russian - worked liked a charm!
And then there was the wrong number that kept calling him asking for someone - 3 or 4 times in one night. no amount of Chinese or English worked. Switched to Mongolian and no more phone calls
