I don't have the energy to post on here much more. Too much criticism.
You are kidding me, right???
after all the help we have given you on here, which you don't follow, so we post again and go over and over what we've told you, YOU DON'T HAVE THE ENERGY TO POST??
Wow...im truly frustrated.
no one said you lied to us, we're saying that you need to pay more attention to what's going on with the pup.
Have you ever owned a pup?
because i haven't owned a pup in over 20 years but i would still know how to go about raising one! You don't forget that knowledge.
You remember what works and what didn't and learn.
That video just infuriated most of us because everything we're telling you to do, you didn't do! No praise, no engagement at all, just wandering around the yard with the pup. That's not interatction, that's not bonding that's just down right boredome to a Mal pup. I know that just from reading posts from people on the board that own them!
what you take as criticism is more than likely caused by frustration and worry Nick. We (collective we) here tend to worry more about the dogs than how we come across to owners. so it does come off gruff & hard at some points.
But sometimes that's the only way to get a point across.
Please post back what the vet says. Also, is this the first time you've taken him to your regular vet since you've gotten him?
(im not talking the e-vet).
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

"Please post back what the vet says."
I think many are waiting for this, and also the pup's weight. I hope they get in today.

We are also waiting to learn the pup's exact date of birth.

He has Giardia and was given metronidazole.
pup birth 12/27/10 (said this before)
They didn't weigh him today the vet had to make room to get us in. I will weigh him later. We have to go back out for now.
We can give out more information later.
We also got his last puppy shots and he was given de-wormer.
I was told by the breeder to get some probiotics which we did. I have not given the 1/8th of that to the dog yet when should I?
We were told we should start kibble after 48 hours.

Nick, thanks for the update. The giardia would explain the diarrhea. Hopefully you will be seeing steady improvement from here on out. Please keep updating when you have time!
If you are asking about the probiotics, I would start giving right away...they will put some good bacteria back into his gut.

I was hoping that it wouldn't be giardia .... but at least it's explained now and he is on the road to recovery!
Probiotics meaning a capsule or meaning yogurt with live cultures?

I'm sick of hearing (reading) the crap about you not being able to do marker work cause you can't use REAL treats! One of my dogs HIGHEST VALUE treats is chicken breast. It's in Gambit's 'diet plan'
I just wanted to make sure you read this. Pretty much any dog out there will work for chicken. There's no need to put his food down as a "meal", use some of the chicken to start fun training.
Since you're so stressed out about everything related to your pup so far, don't even worry about training any behaviours right now, work on engagement, just rewarding your puppy for wanting to be near you.
Even when you can feed other foods, you can keep using your dog's meals as rewards. I don't think many of us here just put down a bowl of food 3 times a day as a meal. We use their kibble as rewards in short fun training sessions, or as a reward for going into their crate in order to build a positive association with the crate.

Nick, just FYI, a sick pup ("sick" includes giardia and extreme underweight) should not receive vaccinations.
Many members of this board know this, and know that the vax package insert clearly says to vaccinate only healthy animals.
We also know that many vets ignore this with an eye to their own convenience (or, I have to say, cash register) or to the owner's convenience --- also, to be fair, I think many vets do it because they have different ideas than I might have of what constitutes "health."
Too late to do anything now, but it's a piece of information that I am never shy about imparting.

Tiny bits of white chicken (included as part of, not an addition to, my own dogs' diets) are always the first rewards. Digestible, easily built into the diet as a whole, and loved by the dog.

BIG DITTO!

I second the chicken comment! Frost's favorite training treats are rotisserie chicken that that debone :-) Flavor is good enough that I do not mind putting it in my mouth and it is relatively cheap. That is what I used this weekend at the trial :-)
