I think if I were looking for a breed it would have to be a Great Dane. I've always wanted one.
But, I've got a while before I'd add another dog...probably not until after Ollie is gone.
I'm kind of a sucker for mutts and I'm also a sucker for older dogs that show up in rescue that no one wants. So, I'll probably end up with another one of those eventually.
RE: goats. No particular breed of goat, I just like them. I was thinking a pet but I guess milk would be ok. Not sure about the meat thing, we tried that with cattle and I didn't fair so well.
If you want mowers, you want sheep. Goats prefer brush; they won't eat any grass until every twig they can trim off the trees is gone. This time of year, they like fallen leaves more than anything else. I guess they are like goat potato chips.
I could use a couple in my garden now, next door have a damn great red maple that just dumped its canopy this week, and with the elephant size poops the Boerboels produce, those leaves cleverly disguise the poop making it really tricky to distinguish leaf from poop, do goats eat poop too?!
The ones at our local petting zoo pee over each other so maybe they are partial to poo too!
I rescued a Rhodesian years ago and he was the best dog ever. I wanted to try my hand at it again but didn't want to set a puppy up to be another one like what I had...the expectations were just too high!
I think I would go for a rescue dog...there's so many good dogs out there looking for homes...it's tragic.
