My dog loves being outside. We live in the country on some heavy wooded land w/a small swampish area and there are tons of mosquitoes around.
Today when my dog (a German Shepherd) came in from outside I noticed many small bumps on his face around his eyes and above nose. I think they are mosquito bites.
My question is: is it okay to use some human form of mosquito repellent, (as long as I cover his eyes, of course) or is there something out on the market for dogs, or should I just not worry about it he's just a dog?
A very good and safe misqueto repellant that you would spray on a sponge and then apply to the dog is "UltraShield". This product is labeled safe for dogs and can be purchased at feed stores that carry equine products. I have used this product for years on my dogs and horses. It is a silicone base product that will not "burn up" the skin as an oil based product tends to do.
If you don't have a store in your area that carries this product; you can also order it online at Valley Vet.
