Can anyone help the wife and I construct a diet for Nitro. He is an EPI disorder dog and now has 50% less of his stomach and no spleen. Obviously he will be eating less but more frequently due to the size of his stomach. We would like to go all natural now and treat the guy for his remaining life. The breeder of our pup said she makes a stew for her dogs and one of the ingrediants was onions and today we were told by the vet that onions and garlic are bad for dogs. Is there a link I could find out about the no-no's on what and what not a dog should ingest as far as food is concerned. Thank you...Mark R.

Do you mean raw or homemade? I have a lot of saved research about feeding EPI dogs, but I need to know your general plan first.

Never mind -- I PM'd you with the info, the sites, the book, and the vet references so you can read before you decide! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Good for you that you plan to make the dog's diet as natural and easily-digestible as possible.
Thanks Connie, any recomendations between raw or homemade? I have been reading all your posts/replies on this board. I think you are very knowledgable when it comes to animals. Thankyou for taking the time. It'll be the wife, Brenda who will be either preparing/cooking she is the kitchen wizzard in this house! Thanks again Mark R.

My areas of expertise are sharply defined and limited, but thank you.
When you read my PM you'll be well-supplied with the info to make that decision with your vet. The Pitcairn book will be (I believe) a revelation about the role nutrition plays in health. Read each of the resources. Every one of the three will guide you through your decision.
With the stomach and spleen surgery, a health pro should help with the decisions about bones and about enzyme supplementation.
BTW, the book is an easy and interesting read, and you can start with the nutrition part, getting you going right away.
