I am trying to recruit into my federal police force and am aspiring to the of the K-9 unit there in. For the time being I am working my own dog as much as I can with tasks as similar to police K-9 work as civilian can; in order to gain more experience properly reading a dog and asure that I am as effective as one can be in a handler role, should I be accepted.
What I am wondering is, if I were to use the fundamentals in the video: Training Narcotics Detection Dogs , could those lessons be applied to explosive detection? Obviously I cannot hold controlled substaces like dope or C-4, but could I use the techniques taught in that video to locate substances such as fire cracker propellant?
