I don't know......Max is my first dog and it only took that one time with the nylon to change my behaviour. When he started shredding his plush squeaky toys he didn't get another one until he was 3 years old. He wasn't overly destructive, but I did watch him like a hawk.

Melissa, I thought it sounded a bit too compulsive to be entirely a training or dominance issue. Glad you've got some answers. I know how frustrating it can be to have a very smart and sneaky dog who is hellbent on undesireable behaviors. Takes 24/7 attention.
Go to the training articles section. Under the section on working with a new puppy click on the Type of Crate I recommend. In that article Ed mentions the cow mats and where he orders them from.
