Hey-
just wondering how many if any ticks a week you guys pull off your dogs and where you mostly see them.
so far this season in the northeast i have found about 9 or so. mostly on around the ears, couple between toes.
Ticks haven't really been too much of a problem with my dogs or cats. I put "Killtick" on the dogs after I found one crawling up the leg of one of my dogs and that pretty much took care of that.
The cats don't seem to be bothered with them with the exception of my white cat and the tick was in the fold of the ear.
Dobe,
I found a brown dog tick on the top of my dog's head last fall, just when the Fall tick season was getting into swing. Then we had to keep him really close to home for the next six months due to surgery, so it looks like we missed the Spring batch. Fortunately, we don't have a huge tick borne disease problem here in the Northwest. I use Frontline just in case. Sounds like you're still in the midst of Spring tick season, though. Do you have a lot of tick borne disease concerns?
no real concerns, i forgot to note that i live in a thickly wooded area his kennel is next to the woods. i sprayed some yard tick killer around his area awhile ago, i will reaply again.
a friends dog got lime disease last fall they live the next town over. the only ticks that have been on him are what i believe to be wood ticks kind of rust colored.
i also use the frontline on him but that doesnt prevent the tick from attaching it just is supposed to kill it in like what 48 hours or something. what i need to do is when i take the ticks off is to see if they are still alive. i kind of didnt think to do that. that will tell me that the frontline is effective.
Dobe,
It takes several hours (more than 12, it is believed) after attachment for the tick to transmit the disease. While Frontline does not prevent a tick from attaching, it is designed to kill the tick before transmission has occurred.
