Well I was looking at various sites for working Dobermans. Most of these sites I got from this board and I've heard from numerous people that they are really responsible and good breeders. Well, I noticed that a lot of their dogs are vWd "carriers". I thought the purpose of these tests was to determine if the dogs were free of health problems. And if they do have problems they should not be bred.
The dogs in question here are brood bitches and stud dogs, so obviously they are used for breeding. Its my understanding that let's say you get your dog's hips x-rayed, and they come back fair or poor you scratch that dog off the breeding list right? Am I missing something here? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Vwd is rampant in dobermans. If you breed a "carrier" to a "clear" you will not get the disease. To eliminate all "carriers" would essentially wipe out the vast majority of dogs suitable for breeding.
